The bible in English, why, where? (Page 7)

Zanjan
Zanjan: Doc, there's such a flood of humanitarian agencies helping the Sudanese, any religious efforts get lost in the milieu. Forgive me, I tend not to trust agencies and internet sites that don't have an established public record of integrity, since the funds often don't get to the people as claimed.

That's such a tragic situation there, seeing as Christianity reached those people in the second century AD and the whole of the Sudan was officially a Christian state by the mid 5th century. Something broke down and efforts to re-introduce Christianity weren't as successful as hoped. Stats are unreliable but religious beliefs are divided between Muslim, traditional tribal and Christian. Islam obviously hasn't helped much either.

By the time a region is officially declared a famine zone, it's already too late.

There are 50 failed countries in the world right now, with that area being the least developed in the world. The rest of us can see that its all due to a very long history of war but these people never seem to learn from that, despite countless attempts at peace treaties.

What these people need, money can't buy. There's obviously a spiritual lesson they've all been running away from. They need to realize there's no escaping that.

chronology: Sudan, sad to say has been in a pickle for as long as anyone can remember Zan.

General Gordon wound up beheaded in Khartoum, General Kitchener went there soon after wards specifically to 'kill as many of the buggers as possible ' in revenge for Gordon's death.

Poor Prime Minister Gladstone exclaimed about Sudan. ' I specifically ordered Gordon to carry out a limited Operation there not set up a command centre ' . But Gordon entrenched in Khartoum meant Gladstone had to send troops to save him or be accused of abandoning him.

Mr Gladstone was forever lampooned as 'the murderer of Gordon ' after Khartoum fell to the mardis.

TheDoctor394: :-) Zanjan, I was intrigued to know what your reply would be in light of the blatant evidence I gave you in complete contradiction to your statement that there are no missionaries in South Sudan, and wondered if you might actually be ready to admit that you were wrong.

I didn't actually expect that, and it's not like I get off on trying to score points. But you have sad so many things on this thread that are out of touch with reality, and I have given you clear evidence that goes against at least one of your statements, so it might be nice if you could admit that you don't have the complete picture in regards to the Christian church in the world today.

Zanjan: Blatant evidence?? You have film? Account Books? Verified Christian Newspaper reports?

Doc, a questionable money-raising site with a big "Donate Now" or "Purchase my Book/Brocuhures" button is, to me, not evidence there are missionaries operating in South Sudan.

Besides, if there's anything working for third world development agencies has taught me, it's those sorts of methods are just money poured down a hole. There are special ways to ensure food, medicine and clothing actually get to the people who need it. Governments now use those methods.

Show me something better and up to date, then I'll cede that some evangelizing is going on there. They don't necessarily need to have converted people, just be officially trying.

TheDoctor394: Of course it is true that there bogus money-grabbers out there. Certainly. So it's a matter of doing some homework and actually looking into these ministries. Are you going to just say you don't trust any of the ones listed here?

TheDoctor394: Here's a bit from the Hope And Grace website. I point particularly to the last paragraph.

The History of Christianity in Sudan
Many Christian groups are now beginning to work in South Sudan. The need is great with 70% Sunni Muslim (mostly in the north), 25% indigenous beliefs, and only 5% Christian (mostly in the south and Khartoum), There are over 130 active language groups in Sudan today and most of them have little or no Gospel penetration.

The registration of new organizations is slow and difficult so many groups and denominations have begun to minister and plant churches without official recognition and consequently are not yet on the demographic radar screen.

One thing is certain, through the signing of the Peace Accords God has granted a window of opportunity to spread the Gospel message though all of Southern Sudan and to some extent even the north. There are several evangelical groups working in the displaced person’s camps around Khartoum. There are less than five years left on the peace agreement and no one knows what will happen after that point.

Zanjan: Doc: "Are you going to just say you don't trust any of the ones listed here?"

You gave me 6 links....3 of them were donatation sites - 1, which had information which was 10 years old, one which had info that was a year old. Not trustworthy. Two of the links were irrelevant to my statement (I already know the history of Sudan & aprox stats).

Out of all those, only two were plausible so I'll accept those as close enough to convince me there are still some evangelist projects going on in the South Sudan.

briansmythe: No, there is NO HARMONY between Baha'i and Christ or Christianity. The blasphemy being exhorted by Baha'i World Faith and its adherents will be dealt with at the BEMA JUDGEMENT SEAT. Until that time, we followers of the LIVING CHRIST, must show our love for the souls in Baha'i that have remained in the bondage that Christ offered His life to end. Christ did die for them, and we must always be ready to "give a reason for the hope that lies within us" to "everyman who ask of you." May eyes be opened to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and closed to the bind of Satan. Amen.

Zanjan: We Baha'is don't run scams - fakers can't use our religion to run them either because we NEVER appeal to the public for money. Our religion forbids, by law, receiving any donations or favours from anybody who's not a Baha'i in good standing. That includes our third world development agency.

It's just that easy to protect God's faith from snakes. What should concern you is that humans have sunk to such new lows, that such a law was necessary.

Zanjan: I thought of the elephant first - it's MINE!

Food relief isn't missionary work. Foreign Aid workers are doing that.

There used to be a soup kitchen in the city that fed the homeless. BUT, first the hungry had to listen to a Christian sermon before they could eat. Dangling carrots to teach the Message isn't Kosher.

Did you like my pun?

" all the Believers united exactly with out division"

That's *conformity*, not unity. Christians and Communists tried that and you know where it got them, right?

It's hard to find anyone in the religious chat room - it was always empty when I went there. I have no idea how anyone can carry on a religious discussion with rolling one-liners, especially cross firing.
