What Are Abrahamic Religions? (Page 3)

shadowline: Man alive, this guy is obsessed with this volcano thesis. I got tired of this before, and I'm already tired of it again now.

If you are interested enough in religion to be thinking about it, try to get past the volcano thing. It is simple-minded and superficial.

ghostgeek: Has anybody shown that Exodus is not describing a volcano? Not to my knowledge. All people do is assume that God popped down from heaven and danced a fandango on top of a mountain. Well, concerning that, I ask but one question. Has anybody seen God prancing about on a mountain top recently? Again, not to my knowledge, but there are quite a few individuals who claim to have seen a volcano erupting. Some of them have even posted videos on YouTube as proof. From that, I "speculate" that it is more likely that the ancient Hebrews saw a volcano in full spate than God letting His hair down.

shadowline: Has anyone shown that Exodus IS describing a volcano? I could use a reference here. Direct me to an accredited Biblical scholar or ancient historian who is in print with the view that the Bible's God is a personified volcano. Believe me, I will read him.

ghostgeek: Why would professional Biblical scholars write that the Mount of God was a volcano? It would put them out of a job.

Zanjan: That doesn't seem to matter much.

Whether one believes in any of the Abrahmic religions or not doesn't matter - what matters is what we can get out of it - what we can count on. It's easy to have faith in facts, it's easy to have hindsight.

One thing we can all say is true about these religions is, every one of them appeared, carrying warnings about the future. Another thing we can say is true is that mankind ignored ALL of those warnings. So, we have two things we can absolutely count on!

Look at people today - they're camped out on the foot and in the heart of the worlds biggest supervolcano, which they know is due to blow again very soon...is acatually overdue, like Yellowstone. Campi Flegrei - the same supervolcano that blew 40 thousand years ago, wiping out the Neanderthals as a distinct race of man. .

Will Homo Sapiens face the same fate, just for being stupid and not listening? Well, they're looking up in the skies, heads in the clouds - maybe they should be looking under their feet, eh.

Zanjan: Survival belongs to the most adaptable. A new race of man is already rising; Homo Sapiens will disappear, except for the few genes it has left behind in the new race. That race listens to God.

However, Carl Jung does have some credibility.
