Near Death and Out of Body Experiences (Page 2)

lori100: A very ill elderly lady I know has been having dreams of her death. In the latest she left her dead body and traveled to meet her doctor to tell him to take care of her animals. As she stood in front of him out of body he rode his bike right through her. At her actual appointment that day she told him of the dream and he said how did she know he sometimes rode his bike to work?...he rode his bike to work that very day....a psychic dream with possibly an out of body experience....when people have experiences like this it often is telling them to prepare for their death within 3 months...shall see if she dies within 3 months...

chronology: Could be an instance of 'visual telepathy' Lori. The CIA was said to be fascinated by the possibility of people being able to 'see' through other people eyes. While this does seem outlandish to most people, telepathy has produced some breathtaking results in the past, results some people claim 'prove' telepathy is possible. I don't know Lori, I always try and be objective about such claims, if such abilities have been tested and found possible, why have we never heard of them? the CIA was not the only group testing telepathy, the supposed ability has been tested by many groups, none more so than the former USSR who publicly dismissed telepathy as 'Anti Social nonsense' yet we know they had extensive experiments running in secret institutions in Russia.

There was the sensational rumour that reached the West of one Soviet Telepathic expert who used telepathy in the 1950s to hypnotise some guards on Stalins Office into thinking he was some high ranking Official. In broad daylight he then walked past all the guards and went right into an Office Stalin was sat in.
CIA staff in the U.S. were claimed to have been worried about these reports. But Official Records in the U.S. have never been acknowledged by the Agency.

I mentioned this case in my Trivia Blog some years ago. Like I said then, James Randi would insist it was a hypnosis trick, a clever trick, but not telepathy.

This is a variation of something just as unsettling to U.S. Officials, the ability to use telepathy to 'cover' some situations. Let us suppose a man is outside a CIA Office in New York City taking photographs right in front of the Office of the office. When the CIA House Officer goes out and asks the guard on the door why he never asked the man to comply with the 'no photographing. rules the guard insists there was no man and never saw any man. It is claimed some people have the telepathic ability to change what people see.
So was there no man there and the House Officer had his image placed in his mind, or was the guard on the door prevented from seeing the man by telepathy?

chronology: That was one of Jung's assertions, but there still is no solid proof of telepathy Lori. Am certain James Randi would dismiss every claim of telepathy then use stage magic to duplicate the claim. The U.S. Navy probably never lost much sleep over claims by some dowsers that they could find submarines using dowsing. They hold a dowsing string and weight over a map of the sea and ask the string to spin when it is over a area where a submarine is.

The old 'Swabbies' in the Navy would probably have a joke or two about that over coffee in the sub mess.

lori100: Donald Sutherland, who played the character, Hawkeye Piece, in the movie version of Mash, had a near-death experience when ill with meningitis in 1979.

"Suddenly the pain, fever and acute distress seemed to evaporate. I was floating above my body, surrounded by soft blue light. I began to glide down a long tunnel, away from the bed ... but suddenly I found myself back in my body. The doctors told me later that I had actually died for a time."
-------------------------------------------------------Eric Estrada became famous for his starring role in the television series, Chips. While filming an episode of Chips, he had a terrible motorcycle accident that led to a near-death experience.

"Suddenly I was in a long corridor with bright lights, beautiful music, and a feeling of great peace. But something seemed to be blocking my progress. A voice told me, 'You've got to go back. You've a lot still to do. You've achieved success and stardom but you haven't achieved personal happiness and peace of mind.'" After hearing this voice, Estrada returned to his body.
-----------------------------------Burt Reynolds, the star of Smokey and the Bandit, and many other movies, went into a coma when trying to kick a sleeping pill addiction. He stated, "I went into a coma for about eight or nine hours. At one point they tell me that the doctors brought Loni in to say goodbye to me. And I had the whole out of body experience. I heard the doctor say, "We're losing him." And I was going..."-----------------------------------------Actor James Cromwell became internationally known from his role as Farmer Hoggett, the owner of a piglet in the hit movie Babe. At the age of five, James fell into the ocean which resulted in a near-death experience. Since then, James describes his whole life as a mystical event. lori100: page six---------Tracy Morgan is opening up about his near-death experience.

“I went to the other side,” the 47-year-old comedian told Complex magazine of what he experienced following a fatal car accident in the summer of 2014. “This is not something
I’m making up. Do you know what God said to me? He said, ‘Your room ain’t ready. I still got something for you to do.’ And here I am, doing an interview with you.”

“You’re never going to be normal after you go through something like that,” he continued. “You don’t die for a few weeks and then come back to normal, trust me. Something’s going to be missing, something’s going to be gained — you just got to live your life after that.”

Not sure if this was mentioned already but it is stated that what happens is that the brain is alive and very much active in NDEs. It can be REM intrusion.
It can be a result of hypoxia - a lost of consciousness, not of life.

lori100: true about the mind...what is life if not consciousness?...where is the mind? It is non-physical and people are conscious out of body........people have been shown scenes from their future that came true and shown the effects of their past actions on others...it is more than REM....

A bold statement since you have no evidence to support this, a desperate desire to believe is not enough!

SWlNE:
To me the mind is very physical as it the brain. The brain is capable of many things, things yet to be properly assessed.
A person can be considered brain dead while machines keep the heart pumping, the body warm, etc. With these inventions came that dilemma on the time when someone should be considered dead. There is also the case of persons with no heart beat, lower than normal temperature and with continued CPR and other techniques they were able to function again.
I don't get why you'll degrade the beauty of the human mind and body to something 'magical'.
That conclusion on REM and hypoxia being able to account for NDE is very possible.

SWlNE:
The mind is in brain. You can use it metaphorically, like people say love is in the heart. Love and all understandings is in the brain.

Stating that the conclusion should be that something in a human (a spirit) drifts off after death to another location is magical. Why can it not simply be the working of the brain? Seeing that it is a very complex organ and one that can make you hallucinate, give you strength and do many other things.
