I am an atheist, but... Geoff: I love Amazing Grace. Because I truly want humans to be more than they are. I just wish that they didn't need to believe in something other than what they are to accomplish that. lori100: On a talk show there was a young woman who had suffered traumas and decided to kill herself. I believe she was about 18 at the time. She decided to get herself run over by a train. She laid on the train track and let a train run over her, but it only sliced off her legs. At first she didn't feel any pain at all, after minutes she felt terrible pain and begged God to take the pain away. The pain left immediately and she heard the song Amazing Grace in her head over and over. She has to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair, but she said she was glad to be alive. Zanjan: But what, Geoff? Are you saying you wish atheists could come up with some deeply moving classic songs? So, how do atheists become more than they are? What is their method and did they stay like that? Are there any witnesses who've remarked on their dramatic permanent change? If the end result is the same, why should it matter which specific way they did it? (Edited by Zanjan) AliveSomewhereElse: Ummm yeah wisdom, maturity and lessons in life make us more than we were or are. . Thought that was common sense. Bless your heart. AliveSomewhereElse: Zanjan, I will always do as Jesus would have wanted and try to enlighten others even if their pride and ignorance prevents them from understanding. All I can do is try. Zanjan: Explicit, I respect your position. Mine is similar - I do what God wants but I know I can't enlighten others. All I can do is inform people of the time they're living in and Who's the Source of this change. Our forefathers had a couple of beautiful songs, not many (notice how lazy and durge-like the melodies were), but today the world is swamped with the most amazing music and revealing lyrics of all time. (Edited by Zanjan) Nicotina: AMAZING that what "god" wants just so happens to be exactly the same as what the followers of that particular god want. Coincidence? AliveSomewhereElse: Zanjan, atheists are able to appreciate the beauty and meaning of the songs and that was the point you missed. That in itself should open your eyes to a lesson that should be learned. Lol. I don't call myself an atheist but I do not have religion. Zanjan: Nicotina..not sure what you're looking at but all followers of God want the same thing. God is ONE and so is the Holy Spirit. There's an AMAZING consistency, don't you think? Even some atheists want that - surprise??? Explicit, I didn't miss the point. Everyone likes music with a pretty melody and beautiful human voice - that's a given, no lesson involved. Am I supposed to jump up and down because atheists like them? How many atheists know the words to Ave Maria in English? It's not a song I would ever sing! If anything, their choice is hardly a departure from the "ME" songs. (Edited by Zanjan) AliveSomewhereElse: Are you disagreeing with me because I have no religion? I know 2 of the people very well on this thread and like me they love songs for the whole package. The melody, the meaning, the mindset the person was in while writing it and what it means to them, what emotions it stirs in them etc. I find it insulting that you ignore the substance of a person simply because they haven't accepted God. Honestly, every time you comment I find myself thinking you have no emotions and are more similar to a robot than a human. That wasn't an insult it was an observation. AliveSomewhereElse: You assumed we only like the pretty melody. What point is there in that? It's ok, I'll assume. AliveSomewhereElse: No, my assumption is that you see everyone who hasn't accepted God as the same and you dismiss them unless they accept religion. Zanjan: FYI, I don't like rap, jazz or trance either.......and I don't expect others to give a damn. AliveSomewhereElse: I'm just wondering why you didn't ask why he loves it. There's a chance to understand a person better with a simple question like that. AliveSomewhereElse: Sorry, I'm not seeing it. You've missed everything I've said and made wrong assumptions. | Religion Chat Room 22 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
