ASuzette: I prefer if the person who answers the question, actually answers the question instead of telling people to google the answer to the question.

Your statement about religion as a whole does not actually answer the question I asked. Please stay on topic

chronology: Just wondering why Catholic? All the churches have the same track record for molestation of children and exploitation of elderly people. You're kids are just as likely to be sexually exploited in any other church as a Catholic one.

Roqairol
Roqairol: All forms of Christianity are humane compared to Islam, for the simple reason that Christianity does not have any inhumane doctrines.

Christianity lent itself to inhumaneness in the past, in the form of Inquisitions, persecutions, and wars of religion, but, since nothing in the New Testament, or any other authoritative Christian document, says "Set up Inquisitions", or "Perpetrate wars of religion", Christianity was reformable.

Islam, on the other hand, commands its adherents to wage jihad against infidels with the express intention of either converting them by force, or subjugating them to Muslim masters. Waging jihad is a religious duty in Islam.

That's why Islam became a major world phenomenon by conquest, and that's why it is so violent today.

chronology: Riqurol, you have got to be joking. Ask the people of Rwanda what they think of the Christian mass murders, or folks in the Lebanon who watched their wives and daughters knifed to death. And don't even go there with Yugoslavia and what was done to Muslims there. No, Christianity today has hands as dirty as any other people.

Stephen2020Vision
Stephen2020Vision: Hey Asuzette, good to see you.

I think the biggest problem is, that too many people blame a minority for the actions of the few, yeah there are extremists in Islam, but in the Catholic church you have your pedophiles and other things too, yet there are over 1 billion Catholics in the world. We CANNOT judge a majority of people for the actions of a few. Obviously terrorism and pedophilia are both bad for humanity.

Obviously about religion in general, I think most religion is about control of people's minds etc, but in all honesty, the message is meant to be about love, forgiving of sins all that kind of thing. You also have to consider that with Islam, it does have various different sects and beliefs just as Christianity does, like Catholic is just one branch of many Christian teachings, so it's not fair for us to generalize about Islam, as Sunni and Shia etc are all very different interpretations of the same religion.

Roqairol
Roqairol: I think you are mistaken there, chronology. None of the things you mention can be put down to belief in the teachings of Christianity. They may have been committed by people who, in one way or another, were supposed to be identifiable as Christian, at least in the social sense, but they cannot be traced back to Christian belief. People of a Christian connection may have their reasons for using violence, but belief in what their religion teaches is not one of them. Because their religion doesn't teach violence.

chronology: Then we must see what effect religion has on the society around it. Hmmmm, the most uneducated, poverty stricken, crime ridden states are also the most religious.

Drugs, religion, alcoholism, and gambling always seem to be found where there are plenty of churches.

Metaverseguy: I don't get the whole Christian faith. On one end it's a fear of government and authority, since Jesus was an innocent man who was sentenced to death for a minor crime. It undermined the Roman Empire yet it's ritual is "drinking the blood and eating the flesh of Jesus". I don't understand this barbaric and cannibalistic ritual. I think it's sick and disgusting. The religion says don't worry about the physical world all the treasures are in the spiritual world, yet having its members drink wine and bread symbolic of their saviour's body, just makes them part of the evil men who helped crucify Jesus.

Yes, Christianity claiming that all men are sinners is a vital tenet and canon, yet when people learn of Christianity as a religion and something they have a choice to follow it seems silly.
