WHY GO TO CHURCH PistolPackingGranny: Why Go to Church? If you're spiritually alive, you're going to love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read it. If you're spiritually curious, there is still hope! A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. He wrote, "I've gone for 30 years now, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but, for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time. The preachers and priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all." This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column. Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 22,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing, GOD is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank GOD for our physical and our spiritual nourishment! IF YOU CANNOT SEE GOD IN ALL, YOU CANNOT SEE GOD AT ALL ! B. I. B. L. E. simply means: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth! When you are about to forward this to others, the devil will discourage you. So, go on! Forward this to people who are DEAR to you and TRUST GOD. NOW WE HAVE TO PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY!!! Zanjan: Clincher? Where???? The answer has been there all along: Christians should go to church because both Moses and Christ made it A LAW -> 'Honour the Sabbath and keep it Holy'. Because Christ said they should take COMMUNION frequently. The day you say "What do *I* get out of it" is the day you're not learning or serving God. You don't have to go to church to learn anything - you go to worship God, coming together as a united community in one spirit. You go to church to help your community with its projects and missions. If you're a Christian, you're already supposed to know your religion. Learning (application) is what you do during the rest of the week - you take those discoveries to your friends and when you're teaching somebody your religion. If I was that guy's wife, I'd tell him to learn to cook - he's not a baby! (Edited by Zanjan) chronology: This is a thought provoking thread indeed. The real question is 'which' church do you attend. Although the Catholic church is very diplomatic these days they still believe there is 'no salvation outside the catholic church' the fires of hell await all who die who are not a member of the catholic church they say, everlasting fires and pain and devils raping you day and night. 7 day Adventists believe the catholic church is the devil, Mormons believe their church is the final revelation. Gay and Lesbian Christians also feel they are discriminated against, And don't forget your Baptism, Baptists say you have to be 'fully immersed' in water before you are truly baptised. And there are the Jehovah's Witness crowd who send catholic's into a tizzy by insisting Jesus is not God. Perhaps the church of England got it right when they say if you call your self a member of the Anglican church you really should attend services and help with the support of the church. If you don't want to lend a hand in church upkeep then don't call yourself an Anglican. Dito for all the other sects and cults and whatever. Zanjan: I stand on a mountain, overlooking the valley tufted with religions far as the eye can see gray smoke puffs from each black chimney they, unaware of the air that's fresh up here chronology: sorry zan, I don't understand your post. But am sure you would fit in at your local church. Zanjan: Give it awhile to sink in. It's another version of the letters to the 7 churches. No church is a fit for me but I manage to blend because I don't wear strange clothes. chronology: That is quit a claim zan 'another letter to the 7 churches' God has spoken through zan we are to believe. Anyhow zan, get yourself into a church and sign up there. Trust me, you belong in such a place. Zanjan: Chron, the churches were judged long before I was born. I'm just agreeing. I have a religion - it fits me like a glove. McGooWhupsBama: I am a Sober and Al Anon Christian. Mass disappointed me in High School. I Know Christ Lives! He keeps me clean, sober, and at peace! I know only He can do that after 17 years of using false Gods for that! My Christianity is just as valid as yours since it keeps me alive One At A Time! Praise as you wish, as the Bill of Rights days! ASuzette: Creeps are indeed human beings and they do indeed need a fair trial. What they don't need are religious people protecting them and making up excuses for them I K R: I think the point of going to church is so that you are there to put money in the collection.... Zanjan: Churches are charitable organizations - if you choose to ignore them, no problem. On the other hand, if you avail yourself of that charity and still withhold, then you're a parasite. Give and take - there's always something you can give of your time and labour, no matter how poor or sick you are, even if you belong to a different denomination. For instance, if you go to a church potluck, bring something to eat. If you sit in its chairs, offer to help move the chairs. If you bring your screaming baby, offer to help in the church nursery. If you sit in church as an observer, like I do, then bring a friend. Help someone else. (Edited by Zanjan) Zanjan: For example, my brother, who's developmentally delayed, became a Christian six years ago. I was never a Christian; I belong to a different religion. My brother needs others to give him a ride to church; to him, attendance is very important - it's a sacred duty and part of his new identity. Fortunately, he's just moved from the city to my region. It happens that the only church he ever knew is an extreme left wing sect, which I personally don't like because its deeply troubled and has strayed far from the scriptures. It's not my business to diss his denomination but nothing prevents me from introducing him to a mainstream church. I explained to him that since he's Christian, he can go to any church he likes and will be welcomed. It's good for him to see how the other churches do things. So, I took him to my client's church, which she loves. ( I also like the pastor and the people) My brother truly enjoyed it! Now he has something with which he can compare, something that is his own speed. If he continues to attend it, I'll fully encourage him to volunteer for things. Serving others is the Spirit of Christianity. By serving Christianity in this way, I'm also serving my own religion. We are united under the One Same God. (Edited by Zanjan) Roqairol: You would go to a church because you believed in the religion that is practised there. I wouldn't call that rocket science. If you don't believe in a religion, don't go to a church. | Religion Chat Room 24 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
