Mixing Religion & Intimacy (Page 2)

Zanjan: Lori, what you've described with the Virgin Mary episode is the "trance" effect commonly seen in mass hypnosis. You've seen it in those performance artists who shake and speak in tongues. A spiritual high, on the other hand, is independent of others.

lori100: I don't think so Zanjan......those kids and others who had contact had the same experiences...some were burned or stabbed in ecstasy and didn't flinch....they were unaware of their surroundings..

Zanjan: Lori, in that film you posted, everyone was following the kids. Nobody else was experiencing anything. Classic hoax.

Fire-walking is common too, just like the guy who lays on a bed of nails or pokes things through his skin without experiencing pain. Mental trance overpowers the senses, it doesn't enlighten them.

A spiritual high, in one way, is like an epiphany - while it's a disclosure and confirmation of reality, it's also an experience of unity and oneness with God. It's very personal and transformative yet always fruitful in the individual as well. It cant be experienced on demand or put on stage.

lori100: yes , only the 4 girls experienced the Virgin...the others did not.....I don't think it was a hoax...it is common that the Virgin contacts young kids...only they are able to see and hear her at those experiences...young kids hear at a high level that adults do not....they hear very high pitched tones and lose that ability as they get older...

If God wanted me to have something, He'd give it to ME.

Zanjan: Like what? Christians all talk about the resurrection the early Christians experienced but not one of them in modern times has ever witnessed or experienced it themselves. What good is that to them??

They know not whereof they speak. Instead, they ask God to make them worthy of it because they're not intimate enough. Their faith will not be full until they experience it themselves.

lori100: more people will learn about the Virgin and God..the reality of the non-physical world....events like the various apparitions of the Virgin Mary around the world that have no explanation, miraculous healings, kids being told by angels/spirits where to stand to avoid being hurt in an explosion that occurred years ago....similar stuff..

Zanjan: Possibly, except that bold miracles have been denied by common skeptics. To others, it's solid proof of the supernatural in action but I wouldn't count on it as the means of sustaining my existence or ensuring my survival.

God has miraculously saved my life several times - that never made me a holy person. I had to work on the virtues myself.

Zanjan: Some of that isn't just skepticism (a euphemism for doubt); some of it's sheer prejudice and internal reluctance to change.
