Nor his parents designed him.
Every thing you like about your self was given to you.

Serabi
Serabi:

Serabi:

Nature is nature, no thought processes go into storms, rain, sunny weather, etc. Nature is governed by the laws of physics. Apples fall down and not up, because of gravity.

How can nature be compared to a 'living, vindictive god'. I just can't see the reasoning behind it all. I have never heard nature being described as something capable of making decisions. Certainly not by scientists. Nature is neutral and predictable. The sun rises in the east, never in the west - predictable. Specific tides are predictable because of the influence of the moon. Tornadoes occur when certain factors come together, caused by up drafts and down drafts of air. Land slides happen when the soil is at a certain degree incline and saturated by rain. No thinking.

@powerplant - Nature is neither a supplement nor competitor to religion. People have created numerous gods as representing aspects of nature - Poseidon - sea and storms, Thor - thunder, etc.

@prophet - nature definitely has dimensions. It cannot operate outside physics laws. The physics laws have come later as our knowledge and scientific perceptions grew, but there are very rigid can's and can'ts.

@ Powerplant - Serabi, so you try to tell me that nature is the inspiration to all gods, mainly by the way of climatic phenomena that required a puppet master, according to our primitive ancestors' thinking? Then, this pantheon merged into the sole god of the monotheistic religions, or have I understood it wrong?

No, I didn't suggest anything of the sort. Nature is nature. There is no God.

Serabi:

@ powerplant - What sort of sacrifice are you refering to?

It is a very sweeping statement, narrow it down a bit, please.

Serabi:

How does this pertain to nature? Nature doesn't need you or your sacrifices. Whether you are here or not, nature would go on.

I cannot speak for the deluded, I haven't been there. Sacrifice is a human term and act.

lori100
lori100: I believe God is in everyone and everything, and eventually science will discover it. We are a part of nature, more than we know. All is connected. We emit energy---thoughts and emotions--- which have a chemical nature, into the surrounding environment. What is the effect of 500,000 or 1,000,0000 people's negative energy on the immediate environment? I have no doubt it does effect nature as well as people. We are creators more than we realize. How much does the population contribute unknowingly to natural disasters? I have always wondered why the poorest nations seem to have the biggest , most devastating natural disasters over and over again. Is there a connection to their suffering and the repeated devastations...? I believe so.
