Zanjan: Hardly. Man has always pitted himself against other men - they're extremely territorial; that's nothing new. The Apocalyptic events foretold in Biblical scriptures apply to religion. Nothing else.

Each religion in the past has faced its own Apocalypse, just as Islam is facing right now - torn apart and rendered every which way from within. It all ends the same way because it's a filtering process - a smaller bunch comes through the fire, a chastened and meeker people. They're content just to hold the lantern and leave the terrors up to somebody else.

Zanjan: People don't get to be nice by reading books written by other men.

ghostgeek: No, they become sour and bitter.

Zanjan: Because the self-help motivational gurus are still making lots of money, penning new psychology books that falsely promise the desperate and lost 'the power is in you'. There is much resentment when one feels they got stiffed.

Not ISIS members - they're definitely motivated! Indeed, they got their money's worth because God has a Plan B. He doesn't waste resources. See, if one can't be a saint, they can still be somebody -> the wrath of God upon the earth, wiping out all the unfaithful.

The Biblical Jonah would have loved it.

Zanjan: I always like to assess my own character too.

Zanjan: Especially when one doesn't appeal to their own standard. Why, just the other day, I excelled my own self! Obviously, too easy.

Zanjan: Wishing doesn't get you there, sincere effort does.

ghostgeek: Personally, I think it's bad form to excel. It encourages bragging.

Zanjan: Like grandmothers who brag about their grandkids - the children they never had.
