Zanjan: Chronology: "That singing sooths the distressed is well known, some times as ships sink, dieing passengers sing their religious songs as they die, the basic form of singing is 'screaming'. "

Which doesn't explain why some religious people cant sing....and most don't even talk during services. There's something to be said for 'listening' - it's a 2-way street.

You're welcome to your opinions as long as you say you're presenting them as your own opinions.......but when you assert them as being factual, this is disingenuous. You don't have to prove that to me - it's God you face for spreading untruths; and, contrary to popular opinion, one doesn't get a grace period (until after death) to feel the consequences.

Bossy pants: Freud's life is historically, well-documented. His professional theories were just opinions, which fell by the wayside because there was no foundation to support them as having any substance. Truth stands the test of time.

Zanjan: Lipton: " Theres also advice on how to treat your slaves in scripture"

We don't have slaves.........but if we did, I wouldn't need exceedingly ancient scripture to tell me how to treat them. We've come a long way from ignorance. Nevertheless, there will always be nasty, corrupt bosses.

"Theres not much purpose in avoiding "personally insulting" you- because the effort is a grave insult to myself and others."

Well, it would get you banned from wireclub. I find those people who cite the Golden Rule as their philosophy in life, never obey it. They cant. You see, those same people neglect to acquire the spiritual virtues that will give them the power to do so. One needs to have something more than an idea to follow through.

"Are you suggesting we can ignore scripture if we don't like it?"

Holy Scripture is the Word of God, His Revelation.....your quotes aren't that. You can't ignore the Word of God with impunity. Whereas, you can ignore the sayings of men because you don't need them.

""Official History" of Jesus states he married a prostitute"

No, it doesnt. "Official" means verified as fact......if Jesus or those who lived at His side as His Apostles didn't state it as a fact, then it isn't. They didn't lie. There's no need for anyone to know what was not conveyed by them. Whether or not He washed dishes or cooked or married isn' t one bit relative to how we conduct ourselves. God ensures that the usable knowledge carries forward.

"you said he absolutely did not have multiple wives"

That's a lie..........go back and read the whole post.

Zanjan: "how could we take ANY advice from Muhammad"

Muhammad never gave you or any of us advice. He revealed the Quran - that is the Voice of God speaking to all the peoples...it's not advice - it's truth. If you cant tell the difference between God speaking and a man speaking, then you're describing your own limitations.

God has given every human the capacity to recognize Him and His Voice. Deep down, every soul can know the truth - it's just a matter of the individual's readiness for acceptance.

This answers the earliest and first question people put forward (when they were children) about why every human has this need for a Deity, why no generation anywhere, anytime has been without belief in God. Our lesser needs change; but great needs don't - like bodily functions, this need remains a constant - it hovers over us continually, right to our dying breath. That's because God put it there when He created us all.

I've always felt this to be true.....this is what led me to scriptures, which confirmed it.

Zanjan,

God did not speak to Muhammad. God also did not e-mail or text him. Muhammad was a mortal and the Quran was written by man. The new and old versions of the bible also were written by mortal man. The planet was once molten lava and will eventually be destroyed and religion will also become non-existent. Now..that...is the truth. There is no proof otherwise.

Zanjan: David: "God did not speak to Muhammad"

Obviously, you can't prove this by actual fact - any illiterate camel-herder could have done what Muhammad did - unite the warring tribes of Arabia and write their first constitution. Even *you* could accomplish such a thing. After all, you can read words.
Uh huh.....we've seen you at work.

David said:

God did not speak to Muhammad"

Zanjan said:

Obviously, you can't prove this by actual fact

David responds:

The point being...no one can prove that God spoke to him. There are those 'humans' that are born great, and there are those humans that achieve some sort of greatness, and then there are those that have greatness thrust upon them. Muhammad like many power hungry lunatics needed a device to control the masses. He created a concept that no one of the time could prove or disprove and he used violence as the controlling measure. You want to dispute this, fine. To this day, violence is still used to control the masses 'in the name of Allah'.

Just a point a view...

lavendar_star: Exactly Fjordman, I watched a documentary on BBC about the life of Muhammad on the BBC which was very favourable to him but they did mention how he like to smoke some ganja with the wise men in the mountains. In the modern world if someone told me God spoke to them and I knew they were weed smoker I would be quite sceptical that it actually happened lol. Furthermore, Muhammad's first wife brother was a Christian and was very influential on the development of Islam so with a obvious conclusion you can see where Muhammad got his ideas from.

As Fjordman has mentioned all the modern day Abraham's religions were developed from the pre existed pagan religions without question.

chronology: Well if you follow events back from the crusifixion of Jesus you find time after time that the Jewish Faith is supported many times by seculer history, there is no reason to doubt Moses. If you follow the history of Islam, you arrive at a man called Muhammed who says he had some kind of revelation about God.

Zanjan: David: "The point being...no one can prove that God spoke to him"

Well, yes we can.......those who can't either haven't done their homework or are in denial. You can pick what you want out of history and leave the rest but you're only cheating yourself by doing that.

There are so many proofs - you don't shake a tree without apples. Each soul has a duty to search for those proofs - not to discourage or dissuade others from finding them.

This is one reason people try to spread the Word of God - they will not be held accountable for another person's ignorance. If God gives you a gift and tells you to share it, why wouldn't you?

Likewise, if you possess a great love for someone, it's impossible to hide it. Sure, we can show our love in our actions but when you're *in love*, that's not enough - you have to tell it to the world, shout it from the rooftops, dance down the street for joy. With true love and sublime adoration, nothing can dampen your spirits or wrest your love from you. You will not be stopped.

It's said that all the world loves a lover...........maybe the bah humbugs of the planet are a new breed?

Zanjan: Fyordman, God never changes His ways. He knows all........that Prophets must speak to the people in a language they recognize so they wont be thought of as fools.

God delivers a Revelation according to their needs; thus, all the Prophets began teaching from the base of the current civilization. They spoke about things familiar and gradually carved out a path to a new way of being - a path people could follow until they came to the bridge that linked the past to the future. They spoke about that bridge where the past is left behind and all things are re-created.

Religion is a school - for example, you don't abandon addition and subtraction in order to learn multiplication and division; neither do you forget how to calculate with pen and paper, once you switch to power calculators.

You know how hard it is for people to abandon the Christmas tradition and replace it with a new holiday? Just try it. If one person in the family does that, all the others who don't want to go on that same ride will force this person to continue participating in Christmas, no matter what. He will have to celebrate both holidays for the rest of his life, so as not to insult and disturb everyone else.

The gravity of the societal mindset is so great, it will take many generations for the public to catch up to speed, to realize that forcing your own holiday on another is thoughtlessly unfair and disrespectful.

God understands the public is exceedingly slow to catch on. Culture shock isn't so bad when you're prepared for the change.

I've been a member of an on-line Fantasy Hockey League - the only female in this Dynasty. Yesterday, the Board of Directors asked me to be their Union Special Counsel. After 5 years, they finally realized female assistance could help solve their problems.....move over Steve Fehr!

Just thought I'd share that. : :
