A question to Muslims

Geoff
Geoff: What is your opinion on the death sentence being handed down to Meriam Yehya Ibrahim?

A Sudanese court has sentenced a woman to hang for apostasy - the abandonment of her religious faith - after she married a Christian man.

I am curious to know what the opinion of other Muslims around the world is regarding this situation.

Geoff: @Harlett.

I saw that news report too, and was absolutely horrified by it.

However, I have spoken with Muslim friends who assure me that "Such behaviour has no place in Islam" and it can be put down to the fact that "Some people who call themselves muslim are actually nothing more than barbarians."

Geoff: She was stoned to death by her family because they didn't agree with her choice of husband.

She was pregnant, and her husband's family were desperately trying to get the police to protect her.

It was outside the high court in Lahore. She was there because her family were charging her husband with rape and kidnapping.

Like I said, barbarians.

Geoff: for all my sisters.

And yea, I call all women "sister", except she whom I really love - for it is wrong to love your sister that much.

OK... so a lot of them I love like daughters.

Doesn't stop me wanting to slap some sense into a lot of them.

orkanen: Seems no Muslim wants to comment on this, for some reason or other. I wonder why. Is it because it is true to the ramblings of Muhammad, but some Muslims dare not support it until they're in majority, is it because the command sounds too preposterous for it to have come from Muhammad, or is it something else?

Geoff: It was apparently mentioned in passing by a Sudanese minister, however it has not been confirmed and the lady's husband has said that he has been told nothing of it.

So, basically, the Sudanese government are highly embarrassed about all this. However, it is a matter that can only be resolved in the courts - which ignored the country's constitution in coming to this judgement in the first place.
