orkanen: My misconception would be that I, as a mature man, if I were a Muslim, can marry a female child of Muslim parents, as young as I want, have intercourse with her, or at least try, unless I'm way too big for her, then divorce her long before she reaches her first period.

According to the Priest of Saint Mary's Catholic Church: "Mary was approximately 14 years old when she got pregnant with Jesus. Joseph, Mary's Husband is believed to be around 36. Mary was only 13 when she married Joseph. When she first was arranged with Joseph she was between 7 to 9 years old."

According to the "Oxford Dictionary Bible" commentary, Mary (peace be upon her) was was 12 years old when she became impregnated.

i think you need to study what the quran actually says, what the meanings actually mean and when and for what purpose was the verses revealed. if people want to discuss or know something about a religion they should ask the scholars or people of knowledge and not the bbc or cnn!!! show me the verses you are reffering to and ill tell you what it means as a muslim and not from a CNN or BBc perspective.

Excuse me but idolise? no we revere and respect the quran and no we dont idolise or worship the quran?? where do you people get your information from? wow people certainly have some pretty strange misconceptions.

Yes, the Christian faith is also barbaric, but why bring it up? The topic of this thread is 'Misconceptions of Islam', not 'Misconceptions of Islam, but Christianity is almost as bad, so that makes it ok'.
Let's take with one topic at a time, shall we? I'll deal with the other misconceptions when this one is agreed upon.
I mentioned my misconception of the Quran condoning marrying, having sex with, and then divorcing any initially unmarried girl, regardless of age, or whether she's reached puberty or not. Instead of defending Islam, you attack Christianity. Does this mean I am right?
I am fully aware of history all over the world, speaking of girls, too young to be married, to men, old enough to be their fathers, or even grandfathers. This is a thing in everyones past, and should remain so.
In my country, sexual minimum age is set at 16, for reasons of physical and psychological maturity. The only inhabitants here presently engaged in sexual relations with under aged girls are pedophiles and Muslims. Pedophilia is a psychiatric condition and is treated as such.

franklin1950: my misconception about muslims concerns the lack of any noticable muslim peace movement.
if not actively / vocaly supportive of the radical brothers/sisters i see the majority of muslims tacitly support the active radical movement .
