WillowManChe: cuzz jesus went back to heaven to start a war with satan, and of course jesus and his angel forces,
kicked satan out and his demons out of heaven so as of now, satan is very pissed now that he has less time to live or exist before GOD delivers a final KO

Dowager Empress: Has anyone seen Ancien Aliens? Here, it is suggested that the ancients mastered an advanced technology that has since disappeared. It was bound to enter the realm of myths and legends when people started to write about and draw things they didn't know the nature of, so that individuals moving vertically by the help of "jet packs" were described as angels and so on.

Fascinating...

Lol the arrogance of such a statement...How do you know what was depicted in their works were jet packs? You don't!

You are in the same boat as the supposed people who don't "know the nature of,"- its not that you have the absolute answer to them, but rather, you associate it with a mundane technology we now hold, dramatically changing what was reported to suit your agenda(IE "proving" aliens exist, rather than "proving" angels exist....although some paintings of UFO's are no more evidence of the evidence of aliens than some paintings of angels...)- you're doing the exactly the same thing as those people- if these people witnessed vertical accession- they saw vertical accession, and decided the only logical explanation was angels- you see vertical accession, and decided the only logical explanation was jet packs. See how you associated it not with what was reported, or ultimately what could have been, but rather, what WE have.

As far as you know, what was depicted was either bullshit, or an as-of-yet undiscovered technology, like tractor-beams, or maybe a form of time travel.

But no- we know of ways it could happen(or, at least, we suspect ways are possible- a practical jet pack is still a thing of fantasy), so clearly it must be similar to something that exists in our lifetime....Its the same arrogant mindset that convinced people they were seeing angels in the first place....

Coach-Man: Well, there is one significant difference here.

Modern scientists and their followers don't try to attribute an unknown technology to supernatural beings and construct entire religions around such ideas, but rather explain it in terms of what we already know is possible now or will be in the near future.

So I wouldn't put religionists and rationalists in the same drawer, for that wouldn't be fair to any of them...

Dowager Empress: @ LiptonCampbell: Arrogant, you say? I was merely suggesting an alternative explanation to compete with the one that is unacceptable to me, namely that the angels were supernatural beings. The arrogant ones here are those that claim to have discovered the truth and accuse everybody else of being infidels.

And there are many other explanations than that- like, it could have been early examples of men being shot out of cannons, or early LSD experiments, or even something we cannot conceive.....

I do agree completely though- people who announced that they have the answer- and the only proof is their own re-interpretation- are more than likely wrong.

Sassy: I think that more research should have been carried out around "spiritual hallucinations" and how it possibly affected the origins of some religions. The result might surprise us more than just a little.

Coach-Man: Agreed. Although it probably would upset people with a mindset guided by established (but not substantiated) dogma.

Zardha: If we realise that an expensive diamond ring is really unnecessary to attain status through fashion, or show love for one's mate, diamonds will rapidly become useless except within technological function. As a result, items in many other areas may experience an abundance when the traditional usage is exposed as unnecessary and thereby greatly enhancing their use in the improvement of life. Try to substitute "diamond" with "religion" and imagine the consequenses for society worldwide.

Amanda: This process has already started in many countries. As soon as a religion begins to loose its position and significance, it rapidly declines, since it has nothing better to offer people than what the secular society can provide. Old-fashoned doctrines have little appeal to young people, whose spiritual needs are better taken care of by New Age directions and quasi-beliefs with a modern appeal.

So if traditional faiths don't want to succumb in some generations, they surely need to get their act together and take more than one step into the 21st Century.
