Do athiests actually ask what is truth? Or I refuse to believe your truth? (Page 20) cyber4EVA: Probably the verbal diarrhea of one of those rude and inconsiderate people that Risen likes to refer to as impious bigots... oh_good_laughs: Yes, thank you 4Eva.. it could have been, *narrows eyes suspiciously*, anyone of us.. Na, probly some sellsman. cyber4EVA: You've got it right there... To a certain degree, we all try to sell something here, a faith, a view, an opinion, an argument, a comment or an expression of dissent in various degrees of politeness. But not many sincere buyers seem to show up. xapim: it may of been a jahova's witness, they'v been showin up where i'm at latly, i told them i was a impious bigot....., Zardha: A market is a good metaphor for the distribution of ideas. This is how they physically were spread in Antiquity, when people from various parts of a region met to bargain earthly goods and got some spiritual cargo in the process. Later, religious doctrines were enforced with the sword in hand, in a not so peaceful setting. That's when disrespect and the urge to control the masses by dictating their faith entered our lives. This planet will never truly become a good place to live until we are completely rid of such outdated attitudes. Only then, we will again experience an unfettered exchange of constructive and positive opinions. pioneer: I think that an atheist is more open to what should be included in his truth, since he can afford to pick from the top shelf, while theists traditionally are limited by their doctrines. An open-minded person is also more likely to ask neutral questions and therefore have a truth with a more balanced content than a theist. Normally, theists don't ask so many questions, because they are happy with what they are told to believe is the truth, period. Dowager Empress: I refuse to belive other people's truth when it threatens to attack mine. I refuse to believe the teachings that the various religions call truth, because they don't add up to what I perceive as the real truth. Crocodilia: Selling and buying truths ... that's what it's all about. We believe some things we hear, but not everything. Each of us has a different level of credibility, I guess. Some are easily convinced, while others refuse to believe anything outside their own box of fixed ideas. That's what makes us different and what makes debates interesting. | Religion Chat Room 26 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
