Why do you choose bad muslims to represent Islam?

Rena787
Rena787: Why not the oppsite?

Many good muslims, they are good because they follow the true teachings of Islam. They don't understand some verses by themselves. they go to scholars to ask about these verses which something that bad muslims don't do.

mongrel_pup: A religion is best represented by whoever shouts the loudest and draws most attention towards it.

Good, decent Muslims tend to be quiet; and not stand up for their opinions and distance themselves publicly from the extremists. Therfore, their voice is seldom heard and the rest of the world is left with the false notion that all Muslims are bad people with explosives strapped on to their bodies.

LiptonCambell: I gotta agree with both posters above. Its a mixture of good Muslims being not as noticable because they live good, peaceful unintrusive lives, and the fact that the noisest Muslims just so happen to be threatening westerners and "infidels", thus creating an atmosphere of fear and resentment.

Faith & proof: Good point sis and let's take into consideration that the companions ( may Allah be pleased with them )of the prophet ( peace be upon him ) before they convert to Islam they were bad, uncivilized ,and undecent people. They used to kill people for silly reasons, beat their wives and do the most hideous things. But when they bacame muslims, they've completely changed. They start to respect their wives, slaves, and any human being. Even Umar Ibn Al-Khattab who became the second Muslim ruler after Prophet Muhammad's death and ruled for 10 years, he used to call Bilal Ibn Rabah (another companion of the prophet) you are our master. And Bilal Ibn Rabah was black slave for Umayyah ibn Khalaf who used to treat Bilal so badly because he chose to follow prophet Muhammad.

StuckInTheSixties
StuckInTheSixties: A hypothetical:

The non-Muslim decides he wants to learn about Muslims, so he flies to a Middle East country to learn. He spends weeks meeting various people, talking to them, attending services, listening to various clerics and imams speaking, and generally absorbing the atmosphere of Muslim life. He's on his way back to the airport to return home, and up ahead, a huge car bomb goes off. There's dead bodies all over the place, body parts, blood, screaming, panic, sirens as the ambulances arrive, and suddenly, a second car bomb goes off, placed and timed to cause maximum carnage among those coming to the aid of the victims of the first bomb. Later that day, an organization called "Al Qaeda In [name of the country]" takes credit for the bombings.

What would you imagine will have the greater impact upon his impression of Muslims, the many people he talked to and listened to, or Al Qaeda In [name of the country]?

nicholmikey: Well the loud ones seem to be the ones following their holy book the most, quoting all of the bigotry that "normal" Muslims do not follow, as the quiet ones have a hybrid of secular morals and religious traditions. Much like the "God hates fwy$" WBC Christians in the states, they take the bible more seriously than passive Christians so they are used as an example of Christianity. In the old testament it says homosexuality is an abomination, and in the new testament Jesus says the old testament rules apply, so the WBC is being more truthful about what Christianity is than the moderate religious. To my point, the Muslims that treat woman as if they are below men are just following "koran 4:34 :
Men are managers of the affairs of women because Allah has made the one superior to the other. ", the loud ones that are bigoted against women follow the koran more then the quiet ones you speak of therefor are shown as an example.

nicholmikey: I will add some more. Lets say there is a religion that follows the loch ness monster, and like the Abrahamic religions it has a holy book. Now in the book it says that you must punch old people in the face when you see them. Now 90% of "nessians" do not punch old people in the face as that does not fit with modern secular morals, but 10% take the book so seriously that they perform every command in the book. These "Bad" nessians, bad in the eyes of modern society, would be the better example of nessians as they follow 100% of the dogma and present an entire view of what they stand for.

Also I am not trying to pick on Muslims, Christianity and the Jewish religion have terrible outdated morals and teachings. Following them is an act of slowing moral progress.

Lol the old "you too" argument. Its great deflection, but the original topic was about Islam, and how fundamentalists represent them. You wanna make a topic about the US being bastards, go nuts. But this place is for discussing WHY Muslims are getting a bad wrap- not the bad wraps of others.
