I don't see a recent topic of this.. SlytherinHeart: And since, as my profile says, I am new age, I would like to see if there are any others out here with similar views. I know new age isn't exactly specific, but heck. I'm sure you can figure out if you are or not. ;D So, I'm a solitary, and I was just wondering if there were other new agers here with me. ;D Don't spam this thread with hate please. ;D Thanks. StuckInTheSixties: New age beliefs require the same sort of faith as other religious beliefs. I can't find any reason to believe in things for which there is no tangible, objective evidence. KrAsH: Isnt new age beliefs just a mixture of all the other beliefs. A pick and chose belief you might say. StuckInTheSixties: Here's one thing I've found about New-age beliefs: They seem to be based on concepts that are impossible to define because of imprecise language. If you try to find the meaning of a piece of terminology, you typically find that it's based on other terms with equally vague meanings. And if you try to define those terms, to overcome the vagueness and arrive at a concise meaning for them, you'll find that the meaning of those terms are also based on yet other terms with vague, ill defined meanings. And if you try to define those, they're also defined in yet more vague terms, etc. Good for parody, but not for precision. New age beliefs seem to be based on things that are indefinable. StuckInTheSixties: Am I "spam[ming] this thread with hate," or making objective, fair, critical observations? SlytherinHeart: New age is a term loosely used when referring to any religion that is semi decently accepted in today's world that wouldn't have been accepted twenty years ago. This does not mean pick and choose, in any way. There are gods, just as in any other religion, there are.. what do they call them.. the.. grr I can't remember the word. The people who stand at the front of the church and preach.. You know what I mean. -.- And Lol No you're not. You're presenting a viable argument, which is actually highly logical. That was more aimed at people who are more likely to try to revert/convert me and people like me to some other religion. So you're good rofl. And yes, you are right.. There are a lot of particularly ill defined pieces of the religion, pieces that don't usually make sense. But I see the same with every culture and sub culture I've come across. One could point out the flaws in definition of any religion or theory, dating all the way back to the sun revolving around the earth (and before). StuckInTheSixties: Perhaps I'm an evangelist for agnosticism ... More likely just an opinionated loudmouth ... flashie: perhaps we all are. we could have spartans or football teams to settle this. isnt new age new psychedelic drug rants? SlytherinHeart: And now the thread is gone again. Second time this has happened to me in two days. x.x SlytherinHeart: Nevermind. I can see it again. o.O And no, new age is not for psychodelic drug rants. pioneer: Can someone please enlighten me? I've heard that Kabbala is regarded as a New Age faith, but if that is the case, something must be wrong, since this belief is older than mainstram Judaism with roots back to ancient Sumer 5000 years ago, so it should surely be labeled "Old Age" instead. Forgive my ignorance, I'm mostly here to learn from more experienced and knowledgeable people. flashie: ^i think kaballa is also at the core of masonic beliefs or close to it. a mason i know said you can practice any religion being a mason (i only know about uk ones) but that the masonic stuff is based on jewish mysticism | Religion Chat Room 22 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
