Napkin: Yes, many theists are so concerned about following religious restrictions in an old book that they forget to live their life to the fullest. I don't say that they should participate in what religions like to call "sins", but instead positive and constructive activities that make a difference to others. Why don't you see the uncivilized acts that your people commit? You claim that Islam is a peaceful religion, but to whom? When the question "Does the Qu'ran promote violence?" is thrown, the answer is immediately given as "No". But in sura 9:5, it says "fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them."

I watched a movie called "The Stoning of Soraya M", which is about a Muslim woman who was beaten to death by her own people because of RUMORS of an affair. And you still claim that this religion is peaceful? You can't even say that it is peaceful to other Muslims.

So why associate yourself with these barbaric acts? And even if you do believe in strapping a bomb to your chest to blow up a bunch of infidels, what validity does it give your beliefs?

Edit in response to your last post: If the concept of violence is as outdated as you claim, then why do people that call themselves "Muslims" still embrace it and even glorify it?

flashie: islam is an ideal for people who want to follow it. being a christian doesnt make you jesus, you aspire to it. as muslims aspire to follow what the koran teaches and the prophet was example of.

it is a religion of peace completely. but in the prophets life he fought to protect and defend his people after years of persecution. like israel calms nowadays. when he was attacked after suffering for so long they fought back against oppression.

Islamic terrorists allegedly pop up everywhre to do their heinous acts in the name of Allah or Islam, like it is an important part of their personal belief.

Whatever state-generated acts of terrorism the Israelis commit are of course equally dipicable, but they are "carried out in the name of The Republic of Israel's defence interests" without any references to Judaism or the Jewish god.

The aim with my first post was not to debate the reasons for religious terrorism, but a respone to this thread's title and how Islam can be peceived as "peaceful" as long as its members still use religiously justified violence to reach their goals.
