Which truth? (Page 2) satangel: @ Smoke4ever First of all, my truth doesn't contain any religious elements, which would disqualify it from being complete and universal. Instead, my truth is composed by everything in my life that feels good and right, like helping others and being sincerely interested in their wellbeing. My truth is to show compassion and respect to my neighbours regardless of faith, race and origin. To be true to myself and live according to my inner values, to be honest and upright, even to people that disagree with my truth. I also respect others' truth as long as it isn't harmful to anybody. But as soon as people start to include religious doctrines in their truth, I call it "opinion" instead of "truth", because I can disprove most of them in a heartbeat. Now, it's your turn. And please give me something tangible, not just vague and diffuse references to biblical passages and subjective impulses that can't be understood and accepted by everybody. holygrail: OK, Smoke, I'll give it one more attempt, like I promised you. My truth is based on reason and logic. No hints of myths, legends and supernatural stuff in there. No references to deities or faiths, only things that I perceive as pure and rational, like that the earth is spherical and orbits the sun. I try to distinguish between truth and scientific theories. Because the latter cannot be proven with 100% accuracy, they cannot be a part of my truth. I also discern between truth and plausibility. Some people like to present their wishful thinking as truth, but not this girl! And yes, I am very eager to hear your version, too... smoke4ever: i've already stated what the truth is, but you don't like the answer. God created the earth and it rotates around the sun. God created the sun, moon, planets and stars on the 4th day. He made them so that the earth would function correctly: rotation, perfect tilt, different seasons, time. Bodmin: God created? I wouldn't call that a truth, but maybe an opinion or rather a religious dogma of some sort. To me, a truth is something that nobody will challenge and everybody will agree is correct. CoIin: The fashionable thing to say these days is that all truth is contextual, i.e. relative to a particular frame of reference | Religion Chat Room 36 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
