why Jesus can't be a God (Page 2) Spirit One: the Trinity is as old as Creation itself ,the Trinity consist of Yahweh ,our Father and Maker & Creator ,Yahoshua the Messiah[the one erronously called Jesus],and 'Elyon' the beautiful Holy Spirit and Yahweh's female counterpart. john1576: Blake. The Doctrine of the Trinity is a complicated one, but if you believe in the Bible it is the only one that makes any sense. If you reject the belief in the Trinity then Jesus just becomes a deranged lunatic rambling on about His equality with God and His death on the cross is no more significant than David Koreshes death or any misguided Messiahs death. If you go along with the 'God is God and Jesus was just sort of made special by God' way of thinking, then you are heading for real problems trying to square that argument with a Bible that says something very different to that. deuce916: Someone must have impregnated Mary because if it wasn't Joseph then it must have been..... john1576: Duece. Many Laboratories around the world can clone a Human without much trouble, God could as well. Again, nice Bike. john1576: Duece Old Boy, there must at least 10.000 answers to that question, and a guy as bright as you does not need me to start listing them. deuce916: My problem with religion is this: if there is an all-knowing god then why did it create anything if it knows the outcome? If I was a god there's no way I could create a child knowing that there's a chance it might go to hell. I wouldn't create a hell in the first place. Lex Hardon: Before we get ahead of ourselves as to wether this Jesus character was a god or not, can we please have some historical evidence to support the claim that this character even existed in the first place? CandyRivers: Copy and pasted this because I am lazy. I knew there was mention of Jesus by Tacitus in the Annuls of Rome, but wasn't sure what it was. This is all I can find and none of it definate. Josephus Flavius, the Jewish historian, lived as the earliest non-Christian who mentions a Jesus. Although many scholars think that Josephus' short accounts of Jesus (in Antiquities) came from interpolations perpetrated by a later Church father (most likely, Eusebius), Josephus' birth in 37 C.E., well after the alleged crucifixion of Jesus, puts him out of range of an eyewitness account. Moreover, he wrote Antiquities in 93 C.E., after the first gospels got written! Therefore, even if his accounts about Jesus came from his hand, his information could only serve as hearsay. Pliny the Younger (born: 62 C.E.) His letter about the Christians only shows that he got his information from Christian believers themselves. Regardless, his birth date puts him out of range as an eyewitness account. Tacitus, the Roman historian's birth year at 64 C.E., puts him well after the alleged life of Jesus. He gives a brief mention of a "Christus" in his Annals (Book XV, Sec. 44), which he wrote around 109 C.E. He gives no source for his material. Although many have disputed the authenticity of Tacitus' mention of Jesus, the very fact that his birth happened after the alleged Jesus and wrote the Annals during the formation of Christianity, shows that his writing can only provide us with hearsay accounts. Suetonius, a Roman historian, born in 69 C.E. mentions a "Chrestus," a common name. Apologists assume that "Chrestus" means "Christ" (a disputable claim). But even if Seutonius had meant "Christ," it still says nothing about an earthly Jesus. Just like all the others, Suetonius' birth occurred well after the purported Jesus. Again, only hearsay. What shocks me is I am an Atheist, but I honestly thought he was a real person. Now I am even doubting that. john1576: Lex. There seems no reasonable reason to doubt that Jesus Christ lived. The oldest known accounts we have referring to Jesus are from fragments of Gospels from the 2nd and 3rd century A.D. Some people refer to Tacitus, the Roman Historian. While there is no real reason to doubt Tacitus accounts of events in Rome, the oldest documents we have of Tacitus's writings date from about 300 years after the Gospel fragments. Tacitus refers to Boadicea in England, Nero in Rome, Pilot in Jerusalem, he also refers to Jesus being sentenced by Pilot. There is no reasonable reason to think Tacitus a fake. When Julius Caesar writing before Tacitus wrote of the Standard of the Legion falling into the water as the Roman Army came ashore in England. A man in the 1970s went to the place Caesar spoke of and reckons he found the actual crop of stones on the Shore where the Roman soldier rescued the Standard. These are real events. But if you live in Africa or Asia, you have no link with the past here. Fairlass: John, although I am an atheist, I agree that there must have existed a man that the Christian Jesus was modeled on. Most likely he had another name. He donated some elements of his personality to the mythmakers, who glossed over his imperfection with a shining varnish and deified him in the process. I hardly think that Christianity could have originated the way it did without such a source figure, but I'm sure that the historical Jesus was a far cry from the Christ of Faith... Spirit One: Jesus is a made up name ,he hijacked the True Messiah's life and replaced it with Jesus , the True Messiah is Yahoshua [pronounced YAH-HA-SHU-WAY] ,He was born to Yoseph and Elyon ,as Yoseph Ben Yoseph [means Yoseph 'SON'of Yoseph] so he wasn't Jewish nor their King ,Jewish men don't name their son's after them ,He was anointed in His early 30s as Yahoshua Messiah ,He has books in scripture ,The Books Of Joshua Truth is stranger than fiction ,but none the less still remains truth ,no matter what anyone says . satangel: Truth is indeed stranger than fiction! Charles Berlitz has written several books about this fascinating topic. Three of them are compiled in the excellent work "World of Strange Phenomena Omnibus". Your view of what is possible and not will have changed long before you arrive at the last page... CandyRivers: Not read any Charles Berlitz, so cant comment. I understand him to be a man of great intellect in the field of linguistics. (Never really got on with linguistics and dont know much about the subject). However, on a search of him I see he has written a book about the Bermuda Triangle and as I understand it states that it is maybe by product of the destruction of Atlantis. Now the only one problem I have with this is that apparently Lloyds of London do not charge extra premiuims for crossing the Bermuda Triangle. If there was any risk at all then I am sure that the insurance companies would most definatley not place themselves at risk of financial loss. The US Coastguard have also backed up the claim that there is no increased risk of flying or sailing over this area. He also wrote about the Philidelphia Experiment. Which is now widely regarded as a hoax. I think it is important to remember that, just because something is in a book, it doesn't make it true. office: Here in Zimbabwe, there is a strange sect that venerates what they believe to be "the true teachings attributed to Jesus", but they don't believe that he was a supernatural deity. According to them, Jesus was a mere man and they don't recognize him as a deity like the Christians do. In one way, one can possibly say that they are making up their own Jesus to fit their imagination, but hasn't Christianity done exactly the same? Talent_M: with all my repects to christians, Jesus(pbuh) wasn't god, watch this video, also atheists can watch, it's very interesting Lex Hardon: John, the passages you mention by the roman historian Tacitus are highly disputed, consider this list, these are the historians and writers who DID live within Christ's alleged lifetime or within a hundred years of it, Apollonius Persius Appian Petronius Arrian Phaedrus Aulus Gellius Philo-Judaeus Columella Phlegon Damis Pliny the Elder Dio Chrysostom Pliny the Younger Dion Pruseus Plutarch Epictetus Pompon Mela Favorinus Ptolemy Florus Lucius Quintilian Hermogones Quintius Curtius Josephus Seneca Justus of Tiberius Silius Italicus Juvenal Statius Lucanus Suetonius Lucian Tacitus Lysias Theon of Smyran Martial Valerius Flaccus Paterculus Valerius Maximus Yet, aside from two FORGED passages in the works of a Jewish writer mentioned above, and two disputed passages in the works of Roman writers (Tacitus being one) there isn't ANY mention of Jesus Christ. Walking on water, water into wine, feeding of the 5000 and countless over miracles and this Jesus character didnt even make a footnote in the annals of history. At Talent Jesus isnt a god because he is currently hosting a mediocre arabic TV program as ur clip just prooved. Winelover: Now, that sounds truly suspicious, like if Christianity has invented everything to promote its own agenda! Lex Hardon: 'Im going to create man & woman with original sin. Then im going to impregnate a woman with myself as her child, so that i can be born. Once alive i will kill myself as a sacrifice to myself. To save you from the sin i originally condemned you to.
