Can anyone prove Catholiscism is not the world second most evil religion? ♥Hearts_ Done_Time♥: Well, Catholicism is the 1st world religion that ppl think can forgive them of their daily trespasses, and sins, I know, my brother is one of them.. But, it is said that if Jesus, God does forgive u of your sins u shouldnt keep doing them over and over, that is hypocrisy... AussieOi: hmmm I'd view it as the second most dominant, and dominance can equate to evils. It certainly has evil oppression in its history, notably crusades and inquisitions. Its strength in the 'developing' world is growing as it diminishes in the 'post indusrialised' world. I'm personally wary of its peaceful overtures, as it has long supported wars. There's a culture of slander and repudiation of dissentors and non-caltholics embedded down, I even see it in catholics on wire. As this equates to evil is a personal interpretation however its potential for evil in my mind ranks 2nd in the world religions. Jetters: Evil can be interpreted in many ways Aus, you're right. Denying birth control to starving predominantly Catholic countries is nothing but evil in my book. AussieOi: ok my positive take on Catholics comes from my experiances in East Timor. There the church was a percieved sanctuary against the violent muslim Indonesian overlords. The church held a fear of repercussions to the violent militia's that harrassed, raped and killed the locals. People hid in the church. Priests and nuns tried to negotiate only to be gunned down eventually. This won world Catholic attention. It was due to Catholic support that world attention riveted upon East Timor and Indonesia could no longer hide its genocide. Without the galvanisation of Catholics and their influence on governments such as Australia's, East Timor would not be an independant nation today, free of Indonesian tyranny. Pity about the West Papuans. AussieOi: On a personal note i met some lovely local Catholics in my time in Timor leste. My heart was touched deeply by the overwhealming faith and humility of some nuns in Balibo. This experiance still haunts me with the lovely strength that can be a positive side of faith. bahcatha2: there is a catholic cathedral where i live and at a distance it is beautiful and the more the distance becomes the more beautiful it gets. lois_lane: I will just say there are things in my "Religion" that I do not agree with but most people think when you are Catholic your some sort of extremist that only goes by what the bible says. ya thats really not me and people only want to preach about what "they think" but never want to listen to what someone else maybe believes in, most just want to show that they can disprove whatever you believe in or have faith in instead of what most individuals actually think their religion is. Its more of a discussion that you would have in person, its hard over the net. As long as we all believe in being nice and treating people with respect and dignity(for the most part) Does someone really care that much that I might think theres a better place then here to go to when I pass away? Really, is it such a bad thing. As long as im not taking rites away from my fellow Canadians and not pushing what I believe in on people or hurting people by believing in what I believe in. I hope you get the jist of my ramblings haha peace and love Widgette: Believing in a better place after this life is not necessarily such a bad thing. But the negative aspect of religion starts when people become convinced that their view is the only right one and they treat all that don't share their faith as infidels. This creates disharmony and conflicts in the world that we very well could have been without. | Religion Chat Room 32 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
