The mass hysteria over vaping

freedomfirst1797
freedomfirst1797: I was in Walmart today, and I noticed that they stopped selling vaping products. They still sell alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and poisons/pesticides.... but they feel that vaping is too dangerous for them to sell.

How did this happen?

Is vaping really dangerous at all? Lets look at the facts.

Vaping was invented around 13 years ago, and since then exactly 59 people have died from vaping. And they all died in 2019, and they all died from the same cause. They were vaping illegal cannabis cartridges laced with vitamin E Acetate. And no one has died since 2019, after the government cracked down on bootleg cartridges using that additive.

Not a single human being died since then. No one has ever died from vaping any of the commercially available vapes sold by reputable dealers. Meanwhile, just last year alone 480,000 Americans died from smoking cigarettes. Which translates to something over 5 million people dying over the last 13 years. Yet cigarettes are sold everywhere and vaping is heavily restricted... because it is "too dangerous."

I realize that tobacco is taxed, and there are age restrictions on it's use, but for some reason vaping is considered much more dangerous, and all the chain stores refuse to sell them. This has the result of making prices higher, since you must go to vape shops to buy what you want.

Not only that, but vapes cannot be sold online in my own state and many others. They cannot be shipped in many states via the USPS, UPS or FedEx. Because they are "so dangerous." And most flavors have been banned.

But remember, absolutely no one has died from using any vapes sold by reputable dealers. And over 5 million people have died from smoking cigarettes. I mention this because vaping is the easiest way to quit a cigarette smoking habit. In medicine they call this "harm reduction." And it is commonly done for all other addictions. But not for tobacco.

What do you think?

freedomfirst1797: Incidentally, they say it is the nicotine that causes the harm, even though scientists tell us it is the tar in tobacco smoke. Yet all those stores that refuse to sell vapes are willing to sell nicotine patches, nicotine gum and nicotine lozenges. So it must be something else that causes the mass hysteria over vaping.

This video clearly demonstrates how much more dangerous cigarettes are:

So why do we treat vaping like it was a public health crisis?
Could it have anything to do with the billions of dollars that government gets from tobacco taxes? That they won't get if people switch to vaping?

According to my google search, Walmart stopped carrying vape products in 2019.

I don't personally know anyone who vapes, I couldn't say if there is any mass hysteria.

Every state has their own laws and each county in those states also have their own laws.

I suppose there could be mass hysteria in certain parts of the USA.

freedomfirst1797: Right Alette.... at the height of the "vape scare" when 60 people died from using illegal vapes. But no one ever died from using a legal vaping product. And this while over 5 million have died from smoking tobacco.

Here are a few examples of how the hysteria was created....

The truth is, the healthiest thing to inhale is pure air, and anything else carries some risk. But the risk from vaping is really very small, while the risk from tobacco is huge. And vaping is the easiest and best way to stop smoking tobacco.

And you are right about various regions having different restrictions. Vaping is banned in public places, and vape products cannot be mailed or delivered in many states. And large retailers will not sell vape products even though they are still willing to sell alcohol, tobacco and firearms, due to all the negative publicity generated by the media. This isn't an official ban, just a defacto one.

Here is a list of various vaping restrictions in the USA:

LoisS: Yeah the nicotine vapes I can understand not being sold in certain spots but then they shouldnt sell any nicotine product at those places.

Also the vapes I have heard (for the marijuana) and the nicotine get pretty hot and send a hot air down your throat and it feels like its burning your lungs. I dont use either. I am a roll a doobie type of gal. Back in the day though I did try vapes but they werent the hand held ones. They had a big ole hose attached to it and a little butter dish looking thing in the middle you put the herb on and put the lid over it and when you see the smoke you inhale. I personally hate the contraptions. Bongs, ice, water, pipes, vapes, buckets, shoes, boots, cans. I mean just get me some rollies and im good to go.
