STATE/NATIONAL AT-LARGE VOTING junyabee: This country is too interconnected by culture as well as commercially to continue as we were in the 18th-19th-n-60% of the 20th century. What goes on in one part of the nation both tangibly and INTANGIBLY affects other parts of the nation. What used to be unique local/regional issues are now ubiquitous issues that have their extrapolated version in other locales. States can pass laws setting up a regional data base of eligible voters in that regional electoral cooperative 'At-Large' voting zone. Tho' some candidates will get more attention due to 'fame' or $$, in toto, the voters in the region can vote for those candidates for state and federal office since the actions of political office holder do affect the fiscal and cultural life of others beyond their provincial state boundaries. The regional (or broader) consensus of the voters for At-Large candidates will do away with the problems of Gerry-mandered voting districts.
