Watching Israel WHlSKY: Netanyahu back in power and with the ability & plans to weaken the judiciary so that his own corruption charges will be scrapped. One proposed bill would give parliament the ability to overturn the decisions of the Supreme Court with a simple majority of 61 members of parliament (Netanyahu's coalition has 64 seats in the Knesset) So many hardliners in that coalition. WHlSKY: I wonder if the Likud party still want to repeal this: "Clause 7A of the Basic Law: The Knesset states: “A candidates’ list shall not participate in elections for the Knesset, and a person shall not be a candidate for election to the Knesset, if the goals or actions of the list or the actions of the person, expressly or by implication, include one of the following: 1. Negation of the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state; 2. Incitement to racism; 3. Support for armed struggle by a hostile state or a terrorist organization against the State of Israel.” I recall reading their plans to remove that "incitement to racism" bit. And it was revealed that it will thus enable far-right extremists to run (as former MKs Michael Ben-Ari, Baruch Marzel and Bentzi Gopstein, who in the past were barred from running because of the clause). Big Toe: The esteemed President Barack Obama said "elections have consequences". Why can't extremist left wingers accept the consequences of the recent Israeli elections? WHlSKY: 1) There are no extremist left wingers presently engaging in this thread or discussing Israel's election. 2) I don't give a shit what former President Barack Obama had to say. Do you have anything sensible to add to this discussion or am I to expect you'll be throwing these low dumbed down shots? Maximiliano M: 9 months on and the issue still continues. I guess Big Toe view the Israelis who went out to protest and press against this issue as “anti-Semites” | Politics Chat Room 46 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
