(Edited by KeithJ)  Echolegacy: To Keith: You shouldn’t be too surprised about this because when you ask “How do their minds work?” you have to remember that these Republicans are characterized by two traits: First, they HATE Joe Biden and the Democrats with passion and that hate translates into a general refusal to acknowledge that Russia, even in this case, cannot be held accountable by them and second, that Vladimir Putin STILL has devotees among the Republicans because Trump’s stranglehold on the party makes it impossible for them to acknowledge Putin for the tyrannical monster that he is. As long as people like Trump and Tucker Carlson have the influence that they have always enjoyed over the vast majority of Republicans, their view of the matter will NEVER change. So you have to wonder WHY the Republicans, who were traditionally hostile to Russia, have suddenly done an about face on the matter but the answer is clear: Donald Trump is their absolute lord and master and while some Republicans are saying the right thing about Putin’s invasion of Russia, that’s just done for the sake of appearances and as soon as Trump decides what they should think and how they should conduct themselves publicly, you will see that change. If you are still wondering why people like rmclark and laffer80 have said NOTHING about the invasion, the reason is simple: they are too embarrassed and too ashamed to admit that their lord and master, Donald Trump might be wrong. This is why Trump is still making noises about running for the presidency in 2024 and why, strangely, he will probably win, too. This is because ever since Joe Biden took office, Trump and the Republicans have dedicated themselves to promoting and exploiting the hatred that underscores everything that they say and do. Not to mention the moral degeneracy of the party, evidenced by absolute shits like MTG, Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, and Madison Cawthorn, all of whom do NOT deserve to represent their misguided and beleaguered constituents. These characters are a disgrace because they represent the absolute WORST that the country has to offer. All the people I mentioned are bigots, lunatics and possibly guilty of committing sex related crimes. Nice going, Republicans! That’s why Republicanism is synonymous with corruption, lies and tyranny and this is what Biden and the Democrats will be facing in 2024. I do not believe the Republican party “shifted” or “changed” in the 1950s or at any time either in ideology or platform with regard to race, specifically blacks. I believe the Republican party was founded to bring about the freedom of blacks and the realization of the American dream (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness) in all its forms to all blacks in America - rights equal to every race in America, including whites. I also believe the Republican party are true to that ideology and platform today and have been every day since its founding, including from 1950 to today. Trump, in fact, called it “genius” while Carlson was practically wetting his pants with excitement over the invasion, so, it’s no wonder that you’re staying silent on the matter. I guess I can ‘t blame you for avoiding the issue, but it does make me wonder. Yes, Trump DID try to walk back his comments but let me ask you one question: what do you think Trump would have done about the invasion—no, scratch that—Putin calls it a “special military occupation”—-and do you think he might have handled it better than Biden has done? My guess is that, since Trump absolutely ADORES Putin, I suspect that he would have praised Putin’s invasion to the skies and done whatever he could have done to facilitate it. To think that Trump would have refrained from that is a stunning bit of self deception, but, honestly, what would Trump have done in this situation? Oh, he’s having a great time bashing Biden but outside of Trump and Tucker Carlson—and a few Republicans who should have known better—the entire world sees the invasion as anything BUT an example of Putin’s “genius,” right?
