What is Donald Trump's Greatest Failure? (Page 439)

Wordy and Fun
Wordy and Fun: And my point still stands. Perhaps you rushed in too quickly. Note my statements: “ It might be impossible to find a news outlet in the US that doesn’t slant the news”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To which i replied to ALL not just you about CNN

You and i are not the only ones posting here - Maybe take a deep breath and realize not every word is directed towards you ?

I did reply to Keith before you jumped in -

Keith posted about FOX - I replied and mentioned other outlets

When I asked what was the point of your post as you added no context to it, you made the following response:

“Wordy and Fun: Point was that as you said
" It might be impossible to find a news outlet in the US that doesn’t slant the news."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Alot like to mention Fox - While blindly ignoring others that do the same -

No one is getting hyper - Relax - Its a counter point to those who want to keep screaming FOX while ignoring that it goes on by both sides

I think CNN is worse myself

Nothing there is on what Keith said. You quoted my words and thus were referring to me. Hence my direct reply to that post.

Like I said, stop hyping yourself up.

People point out Fox News because they are blatant with the lies and spins. As well as being a popular news outlet in the US.

That can be said without having to mention any other news outlet too. It doesn’t diminish their position by mentioning CNN. Or vice versa.

Also: Due to how they promote conspiracies theories.

rmclark: I'm not saying Fox is perfect at all. But the biggest whopper is MSNBC and CNN and their Russia Russia Russia thing . The Dossier thing has been totally destroyed Most all the left media has back treaded ANd the bad thing of it is, They knew it was false.
So if Chris Wallace told all these lies ( All Fox does is lie) Why did CNN hire him? Is it because CNN couldn't tell enough lies, they wanted him to tell the lies on their station? Just asking.

I don’t watch/follow them both tbh. I prefer DW. Tried watching US news networks and got turned off my the added commentary and interpretation of events. I prefer they just show events and keep their talking points to themselves.

To WHISKY, Wordy & rmclark:

What people keep forgetting is that FOX is NOT news at all: it’s entertainment, but since FOX viewers aren’t particularly discriminating or insightful it hardly matters. FOX viewers tend to think that mainstream news and media is riddled with lies anyway, so what difference does it really make? Lots of FOX viewers also take their news from OAN, whose standards are so low as to be almost laughable. OAN also peddles conspiracy theories and seems to have a soft spot for white supremacists and idolizes Donald Trump. That alone should tell you something about how OAN is probably regarded by serious journalists: I’m sure they think it’s a joke.

Tucker Carlson is on record as admitting that he lies although, allegedly, he says as well that he wishes that he didn’t, and, big surprise, I don’t believe him. Who the hell would, anyway? Moreover, a few journalists on FOX who have left their jobs recently have done so for that very reason. At least three FOX journalists resigned in disgust over the network’s prolific and shameless lies, including Stephen Hayes, Jonah Goldberg and Chris Wallace. In an interview with Dave Rubin on “The Rubin Report,” Carlson admitted it point blank, just in case you were wondering. Ironically, he said it right after he slammed Brian Stelter, Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon for being liars. Interesting, eh? This was mentioned in an article in the Arizona Republic, if anybody wants to check into it further. Incidentally, it seems that FOX not only lies with distressing regularity, it also has contempt for its viewers as it clearly thinks they are stupid enough to buy the lies they peddle. Think about THAT, rmclark, while you’re whining about how CNN tells so many lies. They talk down to you precisely because they think you’re an idiot who will believe ANYTHING they say. If you don’t feel insulted by that then perhaps you should.

I don’t really expect any news outlet to be entirely objective, naturally, because that is utopian thinking. However, it’s something else when FOX indulges in what I can only call lying, flagrantly and consistently, and if necessary this is easy enough to verify.
It’s one thing for a news outlet to get things wrong because nobody expects infallibility anyway. It’s another thing entirely to openly and unashamedly LIE. Tucker Carlson is a flagrant, bald faced LIAR.

After all, he said so himself!

Thanks for the kind wishes and the concern for our health, which is much appreciated. I haven’t posted much lately because of the holidays but for now, we’re just glad to be healthy enough to enjoy it all. In the end, it was nothing more than a very bad head cold but given the state of things in general and the unpredictability of the virus, we took the obvious precautions.

Let’s hope for better in the future so, let me wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

To Keith:

That could certainly be true because of the profound anti-science bias that most people have internalized. In a funny kind of a way, this is almost ‘epistemological’ because what you’re really saying is that since you can’t trust your own five senses when it comes to perceiving physical reality then EVERYTHING becomes suspect, including politics and the outcomes of elections. Of course, this is the sceptic’s argument too, but it also happens to be the underlying argument behind the political order of George Orwell’s dystopian classic, “1984”. In other words, the very nature of reality is dictated by the Party. What the Party says IS reality and the message is only reaffirmed by the process of doublethink. Doublethink is Orwell’s word for the act of holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously while believing neither. It takes considerable mental gymnastics to do this but if you do, then you really CAN accept the Party’s dictums which say things like, “”War is Peace,” “Freedom is Slavery” or “Ignorance is Strength”.

I honestly believe that this is what happens with many Trump supporters though not on such a sophisticated level. Never forget that Trump himself said once, “I love the uneducated!” and now we know why.

If Trump were intelligent and ambitious enough to use the power of the Presidency to create a fascist oligarchy—where government policy is dictated strictly by corporate interests—-this would be a real nightmare scenario and both our foreign and our domestic policies would all be crudely fashioned for Trump’s self-enrichment and self-glorification. I cannot see any possible alternative, Trump bring who and what he is.

As it turns out, Trump’s ambitions— like his intellect—-were greatly limited and he never got more out of the Presidency than what ordinary corruption might allow. His administration was perhaps the most wildly corrupt and incompetent cabinets in our nation’s history.

He did, however, exert a strange power over his supporters when it came to persuading them that HE was more trustworthy than the usual entities: science, law, and politics. In other words, the whole denial of reality that you spoke of refers to things like the “stolen” election so it simply comes down to this: “Who are you going to believe: your eyes or ME?” is what Trump might say. That shows you the sleight-of-hand that Trump uses and frankly, his legion of MAGA morons are too blinded by ignorance and partisan hatred to see this for what it really is.

Now, deprived of his mouthpiece, Twitter, and his life is beleaguered by legal woes and his aura of self-proclaimed magnificence tarnished, the future for him does not seem especially glorious or promising.

Sic transit gloria mundi!

To Keith:

Thank you.....you know, writing these posts is not only gratifying, they are also an excellent way to concentrate my mind and stave off senility—which, by the way, is always an unpleasant possibility at this stage of one’s life. There are some compensations for a man who is on the verge of seventy and this is one of them.

I try to imagine how Donald Trump feels about the same thing though I doubt that, secretly, at least, it must gall him beyond his endurance to realize that he has finally become the one thing he finds to be unbearable: a loser. Outwardly, he is all bravado and empty bluster and whether or not he knows it, history will hereafter depict him as an empty shell; a paragon of moral corruption; a would be potentate whose reputation has shriveled like his diseased and superfluous organ, the one and perhaps only thing he truly values. A crude and revolting materialist, even at this stage of his miserable life, he knows only the price of everything and the value of nothing.

History will judge him harshly, presiding over the most corrupt and debased agglomeration of criminals and moral degenerates ever assembled as a president’s “cabinet”. Truly, the moral tenor of Trump’s Presidency was more hideous and dismaying than what his worst critics ever imagined and THAT will be his legacy: a failed presidency, an abortive insurrection, and material corruption on a scale that was nothing short of breathtaking.

“History”, as Stephen Dedalus once said, “is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake”. He did not know it, but that will be Donald Trump’s true legacy: an ongoing nightmare from which we might never awake, God help us, for if we ever do, what then will then be left to us?
