What happened at the Capitol last week did nothing to change the Left’s hostile disposition toward Donald Trump and his base. It has always seen Trump and his supporters as a malignancy that needs to be cut out of society. It never had any intention of letting Trump go down as a legitimate president, neither does it have any desire to acknowledge the grievances that fueled his rise in the first place.

The words “President Trump” would never have entered the history books if not for the Left and its relentless, pathological hatred of anyone to the right of center. If America is heading towards civil strife, it is because the Left—with the complicity of an opportunistic establishment—has slowly but surely nudged half the country into a corner.

The Left has categorized millions of ordinary people who just want decent, honorable lives as “far-right extremists” and “conspiracy theorists” who deserve to be silenced, fired from their jobs, and rendered socially untouchable. These “dangerous people,” held in such contempt by the Left and the ruling elite, retain such fringe notions as “nations should have borders” and “men and women are different.” The Left has been playing a game of “stop hitting yourself!” with these people for years, and in 2016, those people finally had enough.

It is now four years later and his supporters have watched the president they legitimately elected spend every waking moment in office fight a war of succession with a faction of narcissistic psychopaths. Without a single day of rest, the most powerful institutions in the country conspired in a temper tantrum to overturn the will of the people, all in the name of “democracy,” simply because they did not like who the people had chosen. From day one, they have treated Trump like a usurper whose mere election was an “insurrection,” and they have not concealed their disgust for his supporters, whom they regard as “racist,” subhuman scumbags.

If Trump’s base is a bit inured by now to the outrage over this “sedition” at the Capitol, perhaps they can be forgiven. After all, Joe Biden spent a whole summer pretending that leftist riots were not happening for the sake of power. He only “condemned” them after his hand was forced, and even then, he had the chutzpah to blame them on Trump supporters, even blaming a Trump supporter who was assassinated by a leftist for his own death. It was the most vile gaslighting conceivable.

America is now being treated to lectures on “civility” and “democracy” from these very same people.

The hypocrisy is obvious and galling, but the Left doesn’t care: their philosophy is “heads we win, tails you lose.” Those on the “right side of history” are permitted to do anything. On the other hand, simply taking up space in the public square is a provocation if you’re on the “wrong” side. They could bash your skull in with a rock, and the media would blame you for getting killed. But so much as complain about this crooked deal, and you’ve engaged in “hate speech” and you must be destroyed. Tucker Carlson’s formulation summarizes how arbitrary it all is: their violence is “speech,” but your speech is “violence.” And by the way, so is your silence. Endorse the official narrative, or else.

Yet the Left’s hostility increasingly has little to do with matters of conviction, which can be altered, if only involuntarily. Amidst the “reckoning” that began this summer, the Left started talking about whites like they were some form of disease. We saw the consequences of this bizarre trend in practice after the Left erupted into war-whooping bloodlust against the Capitol “seditionists,” who, they were disappointed to see, were not immediately gunned down in a hail of bullets. (One of them was, but this was not enough apparently.) Presumably their “whiteness” was a count against them.

Biden and his allies are now abandoning any pretense of a desire for “unity” or reconciliation, as if this event is what finally convinced them that Trump is a fascist whose supporters need to be marginalized and silenced. Right.

With Trump gone, they will use the Capitol “insurrection” to further disenfranchise his supporters without hesitation. While many on the Right have condemned the Capitol protesters, hoping that by doing so they will be spared, the Left has already launched a propaganda offensive to convince the public that what transpired was one of the worst things ever to happen in American history, and the inevitable consequence of an aberrational presidency. Everyone who supports Trump now, or has ever supported him, is thereby implicated in this “terrorism.”

We find ourselves in an unsustainable situation. Millions of Americans never have felt more unwelcome in their own country, more disillusioned, or more vulnerable to an unaccountable enemy that hates them with a powerful, homicidal loathing. Their own party has unconcealed indifference and contempt for them. They’re “racists” and “conspiracy theorists” just for existing and having thoughts and perceptions that contradict the propaganda of the people who want to destroy them. If they try to defend themselves by voting, their votes will be dismissed as “illegitimate” and they will be branded enemies of the public.

When your back is at the wall and you’re facing a mob, sooner or later you have to defend yourself before they bludgeon you to death.

What we are experiencing is the culmination of an effort to crush any resistance to the Left’s power. After years of bitter counterinsurgency, the Left finally has their orange scalp. And they will want many, many more.

In my last column, I described how I have come to better understand the moral problem of the “‘good German,’ the term used to describe the average, presumably decent German, who did nothing to hurt Jews but also did nothing to help them and did nothing to undermine the Nazi regime.”

Watching America accept the rationally and morally indefensible physical and economic lockdown of the country, I concluded: “Apathy in the face of tyranny turns out not to be a German or Russian characteristic. I just never thought it could happen in America.”

In one week, it has gotten worse. Now we are faced with a lockdown on speech the likes of which have never been seen in America. And the parallels with Germany are even more stark. The left-wing party (the Democrats) and the left-wing media (the “mainstream media”) are using the mob invasion of the Capitol exactly the way the Nazis used the Reichstag fire.

On February 27, 1933, exactly one month after the Nazis came to power, the German parliament building, the Reichstag, was set ablaze. The Nazis blamed the fire on their archenemy, the communists, and used the fire to essentially extinguish the Communist Party and its ability to publish, speak or otherwise spread its message. Using the Reichstag fire as an excuse, the Nazis passed the Enabling Act, a law that gave the Nazi chancellor, Adolf Hitler, the power to pass laws by decree—without the Reichstag.

Now to America 2021.

On January 6, 2021, a right-wing mob of a few hundred people broke away from a peaceful right-wing protest involving tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of American conservatives and forced its way into the U.S. Capitol. One Capitol policeman was killed after being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher, and one of the right-wing Capitol invaders was shot by a Capitol police officer. (A handful of others who died in the vicinity of the Capitol did so of nonviolent causes.)

Aside from smashed windows, the mob seems to have done little damage to the Capitol. Their intent is still not clear. It seems to have been largely catharsis. They hurt no legislators, and if they intended to overthrow the government, they were delusional.

Beginning the next day, the American Left used the Capitol mob just as the Nazis used the Reichstag: as an excuse to subjugate its conservative enemies and further squelch civil liberties in America—specifically, freedom of speech.

Twitter not only permanently banned the account of president of the United States but permanently banned him from Twitter. Any Twitter account found tweeting Donald Trump was permanently banned.

The Left was able to do all this not only by using the Capitol mob incident but also by engaging in a series of lies.

The first was blaming the attack on President Donald Trump. Over and over, in every leftist medium and stated repeatedly by Democrats, Trump is blamed for “inciting” the riot in his speech just before it took place. Almost never is a Trump quote cited. Because there is none. On the contrary, he did say, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” (italics added).

Another lie was the immediate labeling of the mob attack on the Capitol as “insurrection.” All left-wing media and Democrats now refer to the event as an “insurrection,” a term defined by almost every dictionary as “an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government.” As morally repulsive as the actions of the mob were, they did not constitute a revolt against civil authority or an established government. Disrupting the work of legislators for a few hours—as wrong as that was—does not constitute a “revolt.”

But what proves the Left’s “insurrection” label is a lie is that Democrats and their media never once labeled the left-wing riots of 2020—which involved the destruction by fire and/or occupation and vandalizing of police stations, and the establishment of “autonomous zones,” which, by definition, revolted against “established governments”—as an “insurrection.” The enormous number of businesses burned down, looted or otherwise destroyed was barely covered by the mainstream media, and their violent perpetrators were almost never prosecuted, let alone condemned, as engaging in an insurrection. Dozens of people were killed in these riots, yet there was more outcry and condemnation against the hourslong occupation of the U.S. Capitol than against six months of left-wing violent riots.

Then, like the Nazi regime after the Reichstag fire, the Left immediately moved to further curtail civil liberties, specifically conservatives’ ability to promote their ideas. Twitter and Amazon made it impossible for the alternative to Twitter, Parler, to exist, all in the name of preventing another right-wing “insurrection.”

In the name of the Capitol “insurrection,” the Democrats announced they would impeach the president of the United States, though he had only 14 days left in office.

In the name of the Capitol “insurrection,” Forbes editor Randall Lane announced that Forbes media was “holding those who lied for Trump accountable” in what he called “a truth reckoning”: “Hire any of Trump’s (press secretaries),” Lane warned, “and Forbes will assume that everything your company or firm talks about is a lie.”

In the name of the Capitol mob attack, 159 law professors at Chapman University have called for the firing of John Eastman, a tenured fellow law professor and holder of an endowed chair at Chapman—because “his actions Wednesday (that) helped incite a riot.” Eastman had spoken at the Trump rally.

The professors ended their Los Angeles Times letter: “He does not belong on our campus.”

Words well chosen.

What the Left is doing is announcing—and enforcing—that conservatives “do not belong” in our society. The parallels to 1933 are precise. And most good Americans are keeping silent, just as did most Germans. Though they do not risk being beaten up, are Americans in 2021 as afraid of the American left as Germans in 1933 were of the German fascists? We’re about to find out.

We probably shouldn’t be surprised that the toxic scorched-earth politics of the Obama administration are once again at work in America. Still, it’s maddening after four years of freedom, peace and prosperity to suddenly see the government once again applying the iron fist of hypocritical injustice against normal people. This isn’t going to end well. The government has been traipsing across the country and arresting everyday Americans who participated in last week’s Capitol protests.

The political party that has spent years torching America’s institutions is now claiming that the mostly peaceful breaching of the Capitol, in which the Senators and Representatives were briefly disturbed from their work for a few hours, is the worst thing that’s ever happened. “An unprecedented attack on our democracy” is what they repeatedly call it.

Really? Unprecedented? Never happened before?

I’m old enough to remember when hundreds of Kavanaugh rape truthers invaded and occupied the US Senate a few years ago. Those protesters sought to interrupt the confirmation vote of Brett Kavanaugh. They shut down the Senate for several hours, and they had hoped that their “occupation” and shutdown would be permanent, or at least long enough to convince the Republican Senators to not confirm Kavanaugh. That protest was hailed as “proof that democracy is working” by the media.

More than 300 Kavanaugh rape truthers were arrested for trespassing in the Senate that day, only to have the charges against them dropped later by federal prosecutors. Do you think that will happen to the Trump supporters who are being black-bagged and flown to Guantanamo this week? Asking for a friend.




Likewise, hundreds of Democrats were arrested at Donald Trump’s inauguration in January of 2017. They shut down streets in DC, burned cars and made general nuisances of themselves. A months-long coordinated effort then kicked into high gear to ensure that none of the Democrats who participated in the inauguration riots would actually be prosecuted. Hollywood paid their bail. Hillary Clinton and others set up a legal defense fund for the rioters. Not that it was needed. Many attorneys worked pro bono to ensure, in the end, that all of the charges against every single rioter were dropped in the end.

The same has been true all summer long of Black Lives Matter riots and the Antifa guerrilla warfare actions. Arrested and released 12 hours later without charges. We saw it happen again and again and again. The people being arrested were the scummiest sorts of criminals, too. You wouldn’t want any of them to babysit your kids, at any rate. But they were repeatedly handled with the velvety soft gloves of hypocrisy, every single time.

Not so for Donald Trump’s supporters. They are branded as “domestic terrorists.” Just who are these domestic terrorists who are being rounded up? One of the first arrested was a Republican state representative from West Virginia. Another was the CEO of a digital marketing firm in Boise.

In other words, most of the people being rounded up right now are normal, everyday people. They’re not career criminals, serial rapists or meth addicts like the “protesters” who have been wrecking American cities all year long. They’re our friends and neighbors. And since the left has captured every cultural institution in the US by now, no one is coming to the aid of people who are being arrested. There won’t be any pro bono attorneys stepping up to defend our friends and neighbors as they are charged and tried as terrorists. None of the charges are going to be dropped, either.

Welcome to the healing and unity of the Biden administration – where peaceful protesting is now considered an act of terrorism, worthy of a life sentence in a military prison.
