On March 29, an unidentified police officer fatally shot a 13-year-old named Adam Toledo. The officer chased him down an alleyway and he was armed at the time. The boy is said to have thrown the gun in the moments before the shooting took place. “Police, stop. Stop right f*cking now!” yelled the officer who was in hot pursuit of the sprinting boy. “Hey show me your f—ng hands, drop it!” This is when the officer opened fire. Toledo was still alive and bleeding from the mouth when the officer shot him. The officer did what they could to save the boy’s life, pumping his chest and calling for a medic. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late. Toledo could not be saved and ended up perishing from one single gunshot wound. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tried her best to get out in front of the footage. Foster parents in California are being asked if they can take in unaccompanied Central American children who have recently crossed the southern border. Automated emails and phone calls from the state’s Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) have asked foster parents if they can take anywhere from one to 26 or more children. Travis and Sharla Kall received a voice message and then a follow-up email in mid-March with the request. “At first, it was just strange,” Travis Kall told The Epoch Times. He thought it was a mistake until Diandra Causey, a friend and also a foster parent, confirmed with her agency that it was a request to foster unaccompanied minors who had recently crossed the border illegally. “We were outraged. They’re literally going to use the foster system to facilitate human trafficking,” he said. During influxes of unaccompanied minors, HHS has operated as a proxy foster system, charged with placing children with a parent or sponsor in the United States—most often a parent or close family relative who already is in the country illegally. On April 10, The Epoch Times talked to two boys from Honduras who had just crossed the U.S.–Mexico border into La Joya, Texas. One said he was 17, the other 13; they said their father was in South Carolina. Another group included a girl, 16, and two boys, aged 14 and 7; they said they were from Honduras and their father was in Houston. “Parents living here will hire a criminal organization to bring their child into the country,” former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan told The Epoch Times. He criticized the Biden administration for facilitating 18,000 family separations in March by dismantling border security measures. The number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border illegally hit a record monthly high in March, with 18,663 children apprehended by Border Patrol—more than double that of February. April is projected to be higher still. “We know 31 percent of women had been assaulted making that trip. We know children have been assaulted, we know there’s children in the hands of criminal cartels, we know what happens to them … and it’s just a travesty,” Homan said. By law, unaccompanied minors can’t be returned to their home country unless they’re Mexican or Canadian nationals (from contiguous countries). The foster system, however, has usually been reserved for American children who are in dire circumstances and don’t have a parent to look after them. “That’s why they’re there, because they are in terrible situations,” Travis’s wife, Sharla Kall, told The Epoch Times. “They’re sitting in a home being neglected. Perhaps, they’re in a home with domestic violence, perhaps they’re in a home with drug abuse.” She said foster parents are being placed “between a rock and a hard place” because there are currently 30,000 American children in the Los Angeles County foster system waiting for placement. “We have children that are in horrible conditions right here, right here in our own neighborhoods,” she said. “Someone loses a bed and it’s not fair.” The majority of unaccompanied minors entering the United States are between the ages of 12 and 17, which is also the most difficult age group for finding foster care placements. The California Department of Social Services said it sent out the initial survey to licensed children’s residential facilities in response to a request from HHS. The department declined to respond to an Epoch Times query asking how many Central American minors it’s trying to place in foster care. The Kalls both said they believe they’d be fueling the human trafficking trade if they participated in the new initiative. “Do I want to help them, yes. But I want to know why they’re really here. I find it hard to believe that someone didn’t traffic them here,” Sharla Kall said. “There’s no way that all of these kids came voluntarily. I can’t fathom that. The SIJ status provides a green card to individuals and entitles them to qualify for state sponsored programs, financial aid, transitional housing, and other supportive programs, according to the Los Angeles County Social Services website. “If you’re going to have the American people and their tax dollars supporting these children, then we deserve to know the plan. We deserve to know, are you throwing them into this special immigration status? Is that your goal?” Sharla Kall said. “Show me the plan and we will do it, because we are a great country and we are a great people. And we do care. But we deserve to know exactly what’s happening. So that we can properly help.” Currently, the administration is spending at least $60 million per week on detaining more than 20,000 unaccompanied minors. Starbucks didn’t respond to a request from The Epoch Times for comment. During the evening, a crowd started a dumpster fire near the Justice Center and blocked traffic, prompting authorities to lock the center to prevent unlawful entry into the building. At approximately 10:07 p.m., an officer was wheeling his bicycle on the sidewalk when a person stepped in his path. The sergeant moved the person aside and kept walking, but was then punched in the face by another person. “The sergeant landed in a dangerous position, underneath the suspect and on his back. That’s when other officers moved in to stop the assault. In response to the violent conduct, some focused blows were used. Pepper spray was also deployed by an officer. Celebration of George’s Life and All Out for Duante Wright.” Wright was fatally shot by a police officer earlier this month in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, after resisting arrest. The officer, Kim Potter, resigned and was charged with second-degree manslaughter. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was convicted on April 20 on all three counts in Floyd’s death. Acting Portland Police Chief Chris Davis said in a statement after the verdict was announced that he believed Chauvin’s actions were “beyond the bounds of the law and what we expect of police officers in the performance of their duties.” Portland Mayor and Police Commissioner Ted Wheeler said before the verdict that he hoped Chauvin would be convicted of murder. Police declared an unlawful assembly after the destruction, and demonstrations began winding down, the bureau stated. The area affected by the criminal activity was contained within a few blocks. Hours before the rioting, Wheeler declared a state of emergency. The declaration stated that peaceful demonstrations were to be expected, “to advance the racial justice movement” in the United States, but “criminal activity has sometimes coincided with otherwise peaceful demonstrations, with the criminal activity seeking to take advantage of the circumstances created by the peaceful demonstrations.” The declaration gave police flexibility in responding to violent demonstrations. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has come forward to say that Trump was right in the way that the Southern Border was being handled. McMaster signed an executive order to block the Biden administration from placing unaccompanied minor children into state foster homes in South Carolina. Seeing as how the Biden administration is getting desperate, many states are putting their foot down. It’s not about accommodating unaccompanied minor children. It’s about sending them and their families (that will eventually come looking for the kids) back to their home countries. “They are jumping over the fence … We have got to build that wall. This is a big mistake. The Biden administration ought to admit that Donald Trump had it right.” There are simply not enough resources to deal with inviting that level of migration into the U.S. The Biden administration is struggling to house all of the unaccompanied minors. Why are so many unaccompanied? Migrant parents are sacrificing their children so that they can lead better lives as Americans. This is because Biden has already said that they won’t refuse unaccompanied minors. Why make such promises? It’s becoming an overwhelming problem. McMaster makes the comment that there’s no room for children from another state let alone another country. And, he points out that the flow of those children could be stopped simply by building a wall – the same thing that the Trump administration had focused on. The executive order written by the South Carolina governor ensures that the most vulnerable children of the state come first. There’s no way to accept migrant children when American children in South Carolina are barely getting what they need. McMaster went on to point the finger at the Biden administration on Twitter, saying that a “heartbreaking humanitarian crisis” has been created at the border. And that’s what it is at this point – a humanitarian crisis. It’s not even about illegal immigration. It’s about continuing to invite and accept unaccompanied minors into the country knowing that sufficient care cannot be provided. State foster homes are already hard to come by. Staffing them is nearly impossible. Funding them requires an Act of God. And, there are other problems – the cost of medication for the migrant children who have never been vaccinated against anything. There’s the cost of putting the kids in schools when public schools are already overcrowded and underfunded. The Biden administration has clearly not thought any of this through. They’re willing to open their hearts and their borders without thinking about what’s really going to happen. As McMaster points out, “this is not the people of South Carolina’s fault.” Therefore, it is not the responsibility of the state to take on such problems. He tweeted to say that he’s seen the Trump wall – “It’s big, it’s beautiful.” The best part about the wall is that no one can get over it. The wall stops people in their tracks and forces them to turn around. And most of the equipment to build the wall is still sitting there. It came to a screeching halt with a Biden executive order. It’s time that Biden admits the wall is a good thing. With one executive order, construction on the wall can begin again.
