Lost in a Lost World (Page 25)

chronology: Ghost the return, repeat, Return of China to the leading position in Asia is the best possible news for the USA.

Read American history and you will find that Washington always attempted to return China to the position of self determination and independence from foreign Empire's. The United States has no interest in competing with China.

A strong independent China will be able to provide order in Asia. The best possible outcome of China's role in the region would be to allow the USA slowly wind up it's historic commitment to various countries there.

A strong China takes the pressure off the USA in the inevitable problems the region will have.

President Nixon made American view's on military situations in Asia clear back in 1975 when he stated that 'American Allie's in Asia must in future must not expect American Ground Forces to become engaged in their conflict's' .

ghostgeek: China’s current power grab in Hong Kong that virtually erases the ex-British colony’s self-governing status scares many Southeast Asian countries and nowhere are fears more palpable than in Vietnam, where there is genuine concern that they could be the next target of a hostile takeover. The naval encroachments that last year led to China’s partial occupation of the Spratly Islands long claimed by Vietnam and other Asian nations might just be the start of intensified Chinese pressures challenging the independence of its seemingly vulnerable southern neighbor.

ghostgeek: NEW DELHI—China and India have sent tens of thousands of soldiers and advanced military equipment to their disputed border, as troop deployments in the region reach the highest level in decades.

China’s People’s Liberation Army has gradually increased its troop presence, mostly over the past few months, to at least 50,000, up from about 15,000 at this time last year, according to Indian intelligence and military officials. Those moves have been matched by India, which has sent tens of thousands of its own troops and advanced artillery to the region, the officials said.

Both countries have built up infrastructure at the border in recent months, including insulated cabins and huts to keep troops stationed there through the frigid Himalayan winters.

chronology: Ghost. First China has no history of ever attacking any other country. It has been hundreds of year's since they attacked anyone.

The biggest problem the world could have with China is if the country goes into a period of in fighting amongst it's establishment. This does happen at time's in China.

There is a strong group in China today that feel China can learn much from the USA.

chronology: I think you are being a little alarmist ghost.

If am not mistaken, many Chinese folks have a deep regard for India. Similar to how many American intellectuals in the past saw Europe. Brainy folks in America were said to be uneasy at becoming involved in WW1 and WW2. They saw Germany and Italy as the countries that had provided a great deal of the foundations for America. Italy with it's Roman Empire history, and Germany with it's Reformation Era. The idea of attacking those countries made some Americans uneasy. China may feel the same about India.

chronology: First off, Tibet is and always has been a province of China.

Vietnam and China have developed animosity at time's since the end of the French Empire. Chinese ethnic people in Vietnam felt they were being discriminated against. China itself was unhappy about the discrimination. They came to blows over the subject.

ghostgeek: In 1951, Communist China invited Tibetans to a festival in Beijing. Once there, the Tibetans were forced to sign a 17-point treaty that left them without delegated power. Why did China need the treaty? Because Tibet was a sovereign and independent country at that time.
In March 1959, the spiritual and political head of Tibet, the 14th Dalai Lama, had to shift the government of Tibet into exile in India. In 2011 he devolved political power to Tibetans’ elected president. The Tibetan people continue to struggle for their homeland under illegal Chinese occupation. An estimated 20 per cent of Tibetans have been killed under the occupation. Since 1987, 150 Tibetans have self-immolated in protest against Chinese repressive policies in Tibet.

ghostgeek: Tensions between Vietnam and China increased dramatically after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Attempting to expand its influence, Vietnam established a military presence in Laos; strengthened its ties with China’s rival, the Soviet Union; and toppled the Cambodian regime of Pol Pot in 1979. Just over a month later, Chinese forces invaded, but were repulsed in nine days of bloody and bitter fighting. Tensions between China and Vietnam remained high throughout the next decade, and much of Vietnam’s scarce resources were allocated to protecting its border with China and its interests in Cambodia.

Hey, I don't want to sound cruel or anything but Tibet became an absolute Sh*t hole or ignorance and poverty. It was a public health disaster. Probably because of religion.

The Chinese Red Army began a major clean up effort to try and improve the lives of the people of Tibet.

China has done a lot of good work in Tibet.

Zanjan: China and India have the highest populations numbers on earth. Why should they be concerned about war when they can each easily dispense with more than half of their people?

Well, that doesn't bother them; what concerns them is their image. Marching into another country, at the wanton expense of their soldiers, would make them look like fools.

chronology: Zan. Ironically, the Political Party that saved the Union could well destroy it.

Many Americans simply cannot live anymore with a GOP Government. President Reagan sent the country into a spiral of division. Mr Bush was even more divisive, then came Mr Trump.

At the moment Americans have no choice about living in America, but look what happened to Britain when Scotland and Wales have the opportunity to leave. People there are negotiating with Europe to leave Britain ASAP.

Lets hope not. The USA may still have a great future ahead.

ghostgeek: Who are all these people who can't leave Britain fast enough?

It is now clear that far more EU citizens have been living in the country than previous estimates suggested.

As of 31 May, the government had received 5.6 million applications for the post-Brexit scheme that allows EU (and EEA) nationals to continue living and working in the UK after the end of this month.

That is far higher than the official estimate when the scheme was fully opened in March 2019 that there were 3.7 million (non-Irish) EU nationals in the country.

About five million settlement applications came from England, just over quarter of a million from Scotland and about 92,000 each from Wales and Northern Ireland.

Zanjan: Better to do the research rather than listen to talking heads.

Re, the Covid video. The global problem is with disobedience - the anti-maskers and antivaxers aren't the innocent people. There are always groups that will protest anything and engage in civil disobedience to get their point across. Throwing tantrums doesn't solve anything.

The broadcaster says most survive Covid. Well, not without emergency intervention, filling hospitals with patients on respirators. If only a small number are dying, it's due to the heroic efforts of frontline workers. Those who survive rarely create antibodies; like the regular flu, they can get Covid again - they need to be vaccinated.

Most vaccines are only effective for one year, some for 10 years; none are guaranteed to be permanent.

It's not a matter of personal survival. People can still spread the virus; the longer they go unvaccinated, the more time the virus has to mutate into variants, which current vaccines aren't effective against.
