The police abhor not guilty verdicts and insist on a third sentence, the Karma conviction, which allows police to "correct"(as in the shining) the not guilty for the purposes of maintaining their authority in the face of constitutional protections. After all if a perp were not guilty the police wouldnt have a basis to charge them.
