Bettie Page was banned for a time in the U.S. because young men were 'dieing performing unnatural practices ' when beholding her beauty. chronology: Bettie was living in New York City in 1955 and had posed for some risque bondage photographs. In some was the photographs she posed for 'not' the true Bettie Page. Bettie was mostly known for artistic nude photographs where she can only be described as 'The American Venus' . There is nothing pornographic about these photographs of her astonishing beauty, but unfortunately, the bondage photographs were condemned as 'obscene' by a Tennessee Senator. He demanded to know why the F.B.I. had not prosecuted Bettie. The F.B.I. responded that 'obscenity' in the case of the bondage photographs was a matter of personal opinion. Bettie went to Washington but she never testified at the Senate hearings, despite waiting all day to be called. It is sad that people only think of Bettie with regard to the goofy bondage stuff. The artistic beauty of her nude photographs are forgotten. Bettie Page could have been asked the same question 'what are you doing Bettie taking part in all these schoolboy like goofy 'stocking and high heels' photographs.
