SWlNE:
There is an underlying tension caused by the new moves between the US and Cuba in relations to Obama's recent visit.

I think Cuba should be careful and restrict that relationship to only trade etc. given the history of US' hostility.

Captain Canada: Well it appears that those trade deals are only to allow American enterprises to invest and control infrastructure in the island
USA tourism to flow easily into the island but the USA government has no plans on removing the embargo sanctions for a few years till Cuban government demonstrates better human rights to its impoverished nation which are caused by American and United Nations trade sanctions
I am confused

Last I read on the UN's position, only two countries voted against it, the US and Israel.

I think that's only on the US' side, the Cuban government still has the end say on what will be allowed or not. They should move cautiously and press for a deeper end to the embargo and a removal of Guantanamo Bay facilities.

Putin concluded his first stop on his six-day tour to Latin America in Havana, Cuba, where he met the nation’s President Raul Castro.

Speaking at a press conference, Putin confirmed that many major cooperation deals have been signed between the two nations.

One of the most significant agreements allows the Russian oil company Rosneft to help explore and drill on an offshore oil platform on Cuba’s northeast coast. The area potentially has up to 20 billion barrels of oil, according to Cupet."

Cuba might have important oil reserves that can add a lot to its national productivity.

gronchbove: I agree with you, Slaughterin. This is my hope:

Cuba will develop its oil fields with Chinese and Russian help. They will remember their friends.

I saw Russia was bashing the US holding onto Guantanimo Bay. My hope is that the Cubans, Chinese and Russians eat the best parts of the meal and watch while the Danglos "pant alongside the table hoping for scraps that will never arrive."

I don't think the US can even defend Guantanimo Bay against the modern Russian military.

The US is dying nail-by-nail.

Fidel Castro has broken his silence over President Obama's Cuba visit in a damning letter published in state-run newspaper Granma.
Fidel, who handed power to his brother Raul a decade ago, said Cuba didn't need any gifts from the "empire".

He described Mr Obama's words of reconciliation as "syrupy" and warned they could give Cubans a heart attack.

If USA wants to become the saviour of the Cuban people why not fucking remove all sanctions and embargoes first than after a few years work on the business and the infrastructure deals
Cuba better just remain as is and not live under the jaws of the American goverment

Russia may be replacing the United States in leading the energy markets.

This could include the Cuban oil fields.

One website argues Cuban debt is high, but since the nation does not keep figures, I don't know how the website can say that.

gronchbove: Slaughterin, I believe the "Cuban Embargo" is still officially in effect.

There have been some relaxations, but the Obama visit was more of a "relaxing of relations."

Congress must still vote on the issue. Americans still can't visit Cuba for "tourism."

So, this has some potential, but the "Devil is in the details."

Remembering the Playa Giron invasion [April 17, 1961 – April 19, 1961]

The common tactic of the US government to fund groups to do their imperialistic bidding.

1,600 Cuban exiles trained and financed by the CIA to overthrow Castro and the true revolution. Ended as a great defeat to the US imperialism. Why? Because that revolution was supported by the people.

The nail on the coffin that lead Cuba into the arms of the Soviet Union.

Some Americans are aware of what their government are doing or have done in the past. That's the problem, if it's not genuine ignorance then it is great misinformation. I've spoken to people here who have a misinformed view on the US involvement in Latin America and the Caribbean.
It's crazy.

You have heard of "Feigned Ignorance" right?

Part of me is actually happy that Cuba has not "abruptly allowed AmeriKKKa in?" You know why?

All AmeriKKKa does is destroy.

How many bad guy groups (created by the Langley boys) are in Cuba? How many bombings are there?

ZERO.

Castro at one point promised democracy and a voting system. Even made the effort to travel to the US to speak to the president. I think he would've been influenced to carry out that promise had not the US been hostile. He had every right to be paranoid considering what was done.

It would've been a simple thing for the US to be diplomatic and let the Cubans control their path and the rest of Latin America, but no, it was all about the backward imperialistic thinking and the profiteering off of these countries.

Nothing seem to have changed.

gronchbove: Syria offered democratic elections too.

It really is sick, when you delve into the US Imperialistic mindset, it reminds me of the dog with the bone on a bridge:

The dog had a bone in his mouth on a bridge and looked into the water. He saw another dog with a bone in his mouth. He growled and opened his mouth trying to steal the other dog's bone. His bone dropped into the water. The other dog was him and his greed left him with nothing.

Poetic justice is that the US will be left with "Nothing."

It was, apparently, goodbye. “I’ll be 90 years old soon,” Castro told the Communist party in a valedictory speech at the closure of its four-day congress in Havana. “Soon I’ll be like all the others.”... “The time will come for all of us, but the ideas of the Cuban communists will remain as proof on this planet that if they are worked at with fervour and dignity, they can produce the material and cultural goods that human beings need, and we need to fight without truce to obtain them.”

The seventh party congress announced that Fidel’s brother Raúl, who succeeded him in 2008, will retain the party’s highest post alongside his hardline second-in-command. State media said Raúl, 84, would remain the party’s first secretary and José Ramón Machado Ventura would hold the post of second secretary for at least part of a second five-year term.

chronology: hey gronch. Wonder what will happen if Ted Cruz gets elected in the U.S. next November? Ted's dad was a fighter for Fidel but cashed in his beliefs and fled to the Canada.

Personally am hoping Hillary is elected, but goodness knows what will become of Cuban American relations if Ted walks into the White House. Havana must also be wondering if they may face 'Mad Donald' or 'Dark Horse Cruz' . Havana may also be unsettled with Hillary in the White House, Bill put the screws on Cuba more than any other President, even JFK.

This years U.S. Election must be pretty depressing for Cubans, any way they look at it. But Ted Cruz must give them shivers.

No one in this entire world trusts these candidates.

Cubans in America or Cubans in Cuba?

I think Cuba has a victory parade. They have defeated the US and made the sanctions look silly.

You ever seen the picture of Obama in Cuba? Did you look in the background of the photo? There was a large mural of Che Guevara. Cuba has defeated the US Empire.

Cubans (that is the Cubans of Cuba) have survived much more than a Ted, Trump or Hillary combined. There are also foreign countries who are not as backward as the US' mentality of putting pressure on the small islanders. They will not be shivering at a pink-faced Ted Cruz, that's for you in the US to do.

The West is full of obese people who suffer from enervation. You see it in many of these Wireclub forums. They are shallow, sheeple, who cannot handle hardship.

I think the US is falling. I don't think anyone in Cuba is scared of any of the Evil Empire Con Artists.

The future is China, Russia, Cuba and Iran.
