Do guns protect you, or simply cause violence? (Page 57)

S W l N E: Surprise that no one bumped this thread in 8mths.

Just recently there was the move to let people deemed mentally ill to buy guns.
It's odd since these folks are so disable that they need benefits because they can't work but aren't too disable to handle weaponry.

LiptonCambell: As mentioned previously, the mentally handicapped have been targetted for gun violence for far, far too long. They are not responsible for even 10% of gun violence, and yet people act as if they are this huge threat.

The fact remains that the mentally Ill are far more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators. And that police are far more likely to ignore them if they report a crime committed against them. This is a minority that is being denied both justice, and the means to protect themselves, despite the fact that its been proven they are far leas dangerous than your standard American citizen.

S W l N E:
Perhaps it is because there was a law against the mentally ill from obtaining guns which accounts for the 10%.
Yes, they are a threat when handed a weapon.
Would you by chance be fine with being in a room with a mentally ill person who is handed a load gun? Those on mentally ill benefits by the way can range from the manic depressed to the manic bipolar to the schizophrenic. It's not mere mentally handicapped. THere are also persons suffering from post traumatic stress.
Seeing that these persons are on welfare and incapable of work that should mean they are incapable of handling a weapon.
I know you are pro-gun, etc but do you really want to agree that these persons are capable of owning a weapon? I think you might just be one step away from saying children should also be eligible.

Note that disagreeing that the mentally ill should guns does not compromise being pro-gun, etc. Even in this space there should be limits.

davidk14: .

There are laws that are written by the US House of Representatives which is passed onto the US Senate and then to the President for his signature and then...presto....law.

There are tons of laws already written regarding gun safety. These laws are regulations. No one wants to sell a gun to a criminal or mentally ill individual. No one. Not one person....unless you are yourself a criminal or mentally ill.

The only way to end gun deaths for any reason....all guns must go including all citizens, police and military would have to turn in their guns and ammunition.

Then to remove all the guns from criminals and gangs would of course need to happen. Then the borders would have to be sealed to make sure not one gun makes its way into the country.

So now that America has been completely disarmed.....

Remember, your need to remove guns from citizens to stop accidental discharges to save lives actually causes the genocide that would follow the removal of guns from society.

LiptonCambell: Really ghost? In what world would that make any sense? Even if the government were to turn on its citizens, you would suggest citizens nuking each other to get at the government?

Complete loonie. That makes zero sense.

Zero tolerance. Ghost thinks that if there is no regulations against the second amendment, that WMD and tanks, and F16's should also be on the weekend shopping list.

ghostgeek: Really! Do Yanks think they can take on the American armed forces with hunting rifles and hand guns? If the citizens of the United States are arming themselves to resist their government, they'd best invest in some real weapons. So yes, an F16 with tactical nuclear weapons slung under the wings sounds just the thing to park in the garage.

LiptonCambell: Aight ghost; clearly you dont think an armed society is a deterrent to a government going Tyrannical. So be constructive rather than glib;

What do you think a society should do to ensure Tyranny does not take root in a free soceity? And what do you think should be done if it does?

“Just imagine the Jews of Germany exercising the right to bear arms and fighting the SA, SS and the Wehrmacht. The [Russian] Red Army lost 7 million men fighting the Wehrmacht, despite its tanks and planes and artillery. The Jews with pistols and shotguns would have done better?” he told Salon.
