hornchurchmale: religion is more often that a form of indoctrination , though many whom are religious argue otherwise! ideally nobody should be taught religion until old enough to judge for self say about 18.. I suggested this to a polish guy once whom was taking his child (4) to religious school) he was shocked and said not possible as child might grown up not believing in god! theres also a famous philosopher whom said to effect "give the child till 9 of age and I will give you the man" in other words children ARE indoctrinated by parents.peer groups and society to conform and believe in same values. I am happy to have others with own ideas and beliefs as long a uno threat to myself for others physically or mentally. So be a Christian ,druid. Muslim etc or even believing in fairies at bottom of a garden ( about same credibility level in science and logic) just please don't try and push in on others !

Zanjan: Nobody twists any arms to join or stay in a religion. In fact, it takes more dedication and determination to stay there than it does to leave. Far more fall away than cling to faith and they often do it behind closed doors. So much for your supposed forced "indoctrination".

"nobody should be taught religion until old enough to judge for self say about 18."

On what would they judge?? Apparently, you don't know how education and civilization works. To deprive a child of wisdom and knowledge until you can't legally prevent them anymore is hatred, not love. They will resent you for that thoughtless controller behaviour.

Age 15 is the age of discretion - a child can't make a choice if there are no options on the table. He'll be drawn by whatever influences are most prevalent in society as that's the easiest path; and, usually, those are bad influences.

That saying was age 7 and it's attributed to Aristotle. He was referring to the core character. No parent wants to raise a brute but that's what he'll be without proper training and discipline. The worst thing any parent can do is produce a child that's unlovable.

I don't agree with proselytizing either - that's different than educating a child, who trusts his more experienced parents know what's best for him.

Blackshoes:
All and any form of education is and can be considered a form of indoctrination!
You like most of those that know no better, assume and make-believe there is no value in the education of God's grace.
Therefore hornchurchmale you prefer ignorance because you are ignorant of God's existence, God's love, and God's grace.

John 16:3

These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me.

Psalm 79:6

Pour out Your wrath upon the nations which do not know You,
And upon the kingdoms which do not call upon Your name.

2 Thessalonians 1:8

dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

Job 21:14

“They say to God, ‘Depart from us!
We do not even desire the knowledge of Your ways.

Romans 1:28

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,

Zanjan: You're speaking of radicalization, not indoctrination.

Indoctrination is teaching without critical thinking - that is, read from a book, memorize and parrot the words. Accept with no questions asked. It's blind faith, based on traditions and the various perceptions of men.

Whereas, radicalization is an extremist position on social and political issues. It's not blind at all - it finds fault with everything because it's filled with paranoia and contempt, only attracting failed and resentful humans who long for importance and retribution as their own brand of justice. Radicals don't believe in God, they just use religion.

Hebrews 9:27-28

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Blackshoes: Zanjan Your unbelief in the truth of God's word, and lack of understanding of simple and plain scriptures is evidence and a perfect example of indoctrination.

indoctrination
[inˌdäktrəˈnāSHən]

the process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically.
"I would never subject children to religious indoctrination" · [more]

teaching; instruction.
"methods that were approved for indoctrination in divinity"

Indoctrination

"Indoctrination is the process of inculcating ideas, attitudes, cognitive strategies or a professional methodology. It is often distinguished from education by the fact that the indoctrinated person is expected not to question or critically examine the doctrine they have learned. As such the term may be used pejoratively, often in the context of education, political opinions, theology or religious dogma. The term is closely linked to socialization; in common discourse, indoctrination is often associated with negative connotations, while socialization refers to cultural or educational learning."

Everything is indoctrination. We even wear the same general type of clothing

Try telling an evolutionist how religious and unscientific his belief is', and he' hasn't a clue how everything he believes is based entirely on doctrines dogma and faith

ghostgeek: Could it be back to the good old days?

WASHINGTON—Islamist extremist social media lit up with celebratory messages as the Taliban cemented its control over Afghanistan this weekend, raising concerns that a weakened al Qaeda and other terrorist groups could stage a comeback in the wake of the chaotic U.S. military withdrawal.

U.S. officials, meanwhile, said they are likely to reassess their timeline for how rapidly al Qaeda’s core group, ravaged by years of U.S. counterterrorism operations, could reconstitute itself. The longstanding intelligence assessment had been 18 months to two years after an American military withdrawal, current and former U.S. officials said. ...

But jihadist groups saw the stunningly rapid sweep to power of the Taliban—which harbored al Qaeda before 2001 and hasn’t publicly broken with it—as validating their strategy of patience, analysts who follow their online postings said.

Zanjan: If only the Americans had acted sooner and spirited out all the women and children from Afghanistan as militants approached, that would leave nothing but a country of surprised men. I really like that idea.

I dont think the militants would come to America to take back the women - how would they recognize them without their Burkas?
