Zanjan: Shoes wrote: “It is a God-given right and a biblical principle to defend yourself and others.”

So here we come to rights vs liberties. Is it a right to kill others? Are you the judge and jury? If you had the choice to kill or disable an attacker, which would you choose? Life on earth is dangerous wherever you go. God gave us the freedom to shield others using our own bodies.

Anybody else would have called the cops, who try to capture the attacker first. We all have advance planning for emergencies; apparently, the security guards never did that sort of planning.

The only takeaway from this is the people were faithless and loved their own lives more.

Zanjan: Ghost: “Therefore He knows what all His creations will do from first to last”

Knowing what someone will do in advance doesn’t mean you’ll control their lives. God can out-plot the wicked to bring about swift justice. His justice is more fitting than anything we could devise. This is why He told us to leave vengeance to Him.

As Muhammad said, "Trust in God but tie your camel". He was talking about normal preventative measures. Somebody could still shoot your camel but that's hardly a normal occurrence.

“Take away believers and gods die.”

Go ahead and try that. You’d be the first to ever succeed.

Zanjan, the attacker that invaded the Rabbi's home with a machete and seriously injured five, on Hannuka, one of the people injured most likely will have permanent brain damage. If the Rabbi had a weapon to defend themselves, this most likely would not have happened. Do you know the lessons of Hannuka? The rabbi said that it was God's miracle of Hannuka that more were not injured. He definitely does not know the lessons of Hannuka. That's the problem with those that believe in pathefism. After the 6 million who followed pacifism were murdered, Israel abandoned that road of thought and took up the lessons of Hannuka and never again, will the Jews be slaughtered because of pacifism but then the Rabbi did not learn that lesson.

Seriously maybe they should hire you to shield all the poor soul's woman and children that are mowed down every day by the devil and his followers.
Now what will become of those that you have shielded, after you become a victim 'how many will your shield protect?

Zanjan: David, if the Rabbi had a weapon, there's a very good chance the attacker would have turned it on him. Rabbis couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Some people know their limitations as well as being able to predict some behaviours.

Consider the times we're living in. You lock the door of your home when you go out - why not lock it when you're inside? Surely many people have been taught to do this when living in the city.

In lone-wolf attacks, some of those killed were just people walking down the street. Should we all pack guns/machetes?

Pacificism means to take no action, believing that will cause peace. The Jews in that home called the police - that's action.

What the Jews did in WW2 wasn't pacificism, it was obedience to government authorities, which is what believers are supposed to do whether one thinks the government is a just one or not. You can be certain that God compensated every one of those innocents who were murdered.

In the Halocaust, those who died sacrificed their lives, which won Israel back for their people and put the Holy Land back into capable, well guarded hands. Don't be among the thankless.

Zanjan, according to what you said about Israel defending itself because of lessons learned.

They learned to defend themselves. If they had not, they would have been destroyed in 1948.

What is wrong with you? Do you think US citizens should wait for the cops to show up when an attempted murderer is killing your family? Seriously?

911 what is your emergency?

There is this guy hacking my family up with a machete. How long until a police officer can come and take this person into custody? Five minutes? Ok. If sooner would be great. Thanks and God bless.

Zanjan, Seriously? You're not thinking right.

Zanjan: A country's government is authorized to use its army for the protection of its borders, and cops for protection of its people. Where's your personal army for a home intruder?

It may be you don't have a chance to get to a phone but you do have a chance to predict the outcome. You can defend yourself and your family as you choose - that doesn't imply you'll stop the guy with the machete/gun. Your steak knife is no match for that unless your name is David Adamovich.

If you've been obeying the law, your gun is in a locked cabinet with amo in a separately locked cabinet. If you've got the time to find the keys, do the search and load up, you've got the time to call the cops.

I say get behind a locked door or run out of the house - you know your house better than the attacker. You should have rehearsed this with your family members in advance so they know what to do.

Maybe ask what YOU were thinking.

I hope and pray no one ever learns who you really are and where you live because you will be the next victim on the evening news because the bad guys will come a-knockin knowing you are completely unarmed and refuse to resist.

Why so many school shootings and houses of worship attacked? They have been gun-free zones.

The Jewish Community Center near me has security procedures starting with signs of a security notice when entering the property. You need to have a pass card, a visual inspection by an armed guard and I'm sure more security that is unseen.

According to you, only the government and police should have this type of armed security.

I'm pretty sure the bad guys will attack the church school down the street first since they do not have any security at all.

ghostgeek: If an all-knowing God was the root cause of Creation, then He had the power to create a universe where that attacker never invaded the Rabbi's home and seriously injured five on Hannuka. That He didn't exercise that power shows that God wanted the attack to happen. It's a strange God that you all worship.

Did religion exist before man came onto our planet 7,000 to 4 billion years ago?

ghostgeek: Hard to tell.

All hail the sacred tree. I’ve often wondered aloud in the newsroom about the possibility of finding evidence of a chimp shrine, the discovery of a place where chimps pray to their deity.

This week, my half-whimsical dream almost came true. Biologists working in the Republic of Guinea found evidence for what seemed to be a “sacred tree” used by chimps, perhaps for some sort of ritual.

Laura Kehoe of the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, set up camera traps by trees marked with unusual scratches. What she found gave her goosebumps: chimps were placing stones in the hollow of trees, and bashing trees with rocks.

Zanjan: David: " hope and pray no one ever learns who you really are and where you live because you will be the next victim on the evening news"

I used to live in the city, near city center - no one ever came to attack me, although my name was in the phone book, including my address. I'd have welcomed an attack if it was clearly over religion but that's kind of hard to prove if you don't live in a House of Worship.

You're only a victim if you let yourself be.

Hey, I think spy cams are a great idea - as long as they're on the outside of the building. They wouldn't afford protection but they'd help to catch the perp. I also think car cams are a great idea. In Russia, its mandatory.

Zanjan: "Why so many school shootings and houses of worship attacked"

Sign of the times. Copycat criminals and killers have always been around; there's just more of them now. Although they're exacting vengeance, they also want the news coverage - otherwise, they'd just commit arson.

Not on OUR planet. Of course, there are other solar systems, probably some much older than ours. Wherever intelligent life is evolved enough, yes, they'd have religion too.

Zanjan: Ghost, you can't tell God what to do. He doesn't live our lives for us, doesn't interfere - He provides for all and assists whoever asks Him.

I'm sure that at least one of those Jews in the house had time to pray - what makes you think their prayer didn't help? They all came out alive, right?

Zanjan: Read the article. What's so unusual about animals liking toys and games? Talk to anyone who has pets.

I had one show dog I'd put in a rack pen to protect his coat; beside the pen about 4 feet above the floor was a ledge. He'd line up all his toys in a row on that ledge. No one taught him to do this and he was only a year old at the time.

I use to buy adorable toys for my dogs until I learned their favourite toys were empty toilet paper rolls and milk jugs. Yes, they love certain sounds.

Another show dog let me know when he wanted to eat. He'd pick up his metal bowl and drag it across the bars of the rack pen, back and forth, just like you see in the movies. Sometimes, he'd enthusiastically slam it on the floor or hurl it against the wall, just to hear the sound. You could see him smile after he did it.

Another dog loved to pwang the spring doorstop. I could go on - they each had their own thing they did. Don't think it's because they're domestic, even wild birds love to play games.

We had a Raven family with 4 fledglings. I wont make a list but they sure loved garden markers - they took them all out and threw them around so we didn't know what we planted in the rows. Magpies.......well, not only do they never forget, they love to pull jokes and provoke. Very, very smart. One of them deliberately poisoned my dog (thankfully, the dog made it because I got him to the vet within an hour)

You know, maybe these scientists would be better off studying animal husbandry.
