ghostgeek: QUETTA: At least 70 people were killed and as many as 112 people injured when a powerful explosion ripped through Quetta’s Civil Hospital on Monday.

The explosion took place when Balochistan Bar Association President Bilal Kasi's body was being brought to the emergency department. He was gunned down at Mano Jan Road earlier today. Former Balochistan Bar President Baz Muhammad Kakar was injured in the attack. He later succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Police said that unknown men opened fire after the blast. Panic tore through the hospital after the incident. The blast occurred near the emergency department of the hospital.

Hospital officials confirmed the death toll.

Dr Abdul Rehman, the medical superintendent at the Civil Hospital, said 102 injured people were being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) while 10 were getting medical treatment at the Balochistan Medical Complex.

ghostgeek: Fair enough. It's easy to be influenced by the actions of a few egregious fanatics. So perhaps we should try and find out what the majority of Muslims think; by asking them. Well, somebody did:

A new poll of British Muslims revealed attitudes on homosexuality and terrorism sharply out of step with broader public opinion, but also set off a debate about the reliability of such surveys.

The survey was conducted by the polling company ICM Unlimited and commissioned by the British network Channel 4, which showcased its results in a documentary broadcast on Wednesday. The network said that the findings showed that the mainstream Muslim majority shared many values with non-Muslim Britons but warned that more extreme views lurked beneath the surface.

“Looking deeper into the results, a chasm develops between those Muslims surveyed and the wider population on attitudes to liberal values on issues such as gender equality, homosexuality and issues relating to freedom of expression,” the network said in a statement. “And it also reveals significant differences on attitudes to violence and terrorism.”

Trevor Phillips, the former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, analyzed the results for Channel 4 and said in a statement that they showed Britain faced a threat of “the establishment of a nation within our nation.”

ghostgeek: Among the poll results were relatively high levels of disapproval for homosexuality, with 52 percent of respondents saying it should be illegal and 47 percent saying gay people should not work as teachers. On the issue of women’s rights, 39 percent agreed with the statement “wives should always obey their husbands.”

About one-third of respondents said they would tell the police if they knew someone who was getting involved with supporting terrorism in Syria. The same proportion refused to condemn people who take part in violence against those who mock the Prophet Muhammad. Almost one quarter said they favored replacing the British legal system with Islamic law.

The survey also showed that most respondents liked living in Britain, however, with 88 percent saying they thought it was a good place for Muslims. The percentage of respondents who reported a strong sense of belonging in the country, 86 percent, was higher than the national average.

ghostgeek: So what do you base your opinions on? The state of your bunions? Have you considered what Muslims living in the U.S. think? Have a gander at this and tell us what you think:

According to a new nationwide online survey (Below) of 600 Muslims living in the United States, of those polled a significant minority embraces the supremacist notions that could pose a threat to America’s security and its constitutional form of government. ...

According to the just-released survey of Muslims, a majority (51%) agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to shariah.” When that question was put to the broader U.S. population, the overwhelming majority held that shariah should not displace the U.S. Constitution (86% to 2%). ...

More than half (51%) of U.S. Muslims polled also believe either that they should have the choice of American or shariah courts, or that they should have their own tribunals to apply shariah. Only 39% of those polled said that Muslims in the U.S. should be subject to American courts. ...

Even more troubling, is the fact that nearly a quarter of the Muslims polled believed that, “It is legitimate to use violence to punish those who give offense to Islam by, for example, portraying the prophet Mohammed.” ...

Nearly one-fifth of Muslim respondents said that the use of violence in the United States is justified in order to make shariah the law of the land in this country.

ghostgeek: If the poll results I cited above are correct, then something like half of Muslims living in America want the right to choose shariah courts over American ones. Such a view cannot be put down to a few bad people alone, but must reflect the desires of the broader Muslim community. That suggests, to me at least, that there is a gap developing between Muslim and non Muslim Americans that bodes ill for the future, your future.

I K R: Titanser: people like you dont need to voice your opinion...because you haven't got one.....saying you dont judge is like saying you dont know right from wrong. Where muslims are the majority they ALWAYS choose to live under sharia......Because there is no equality under sharia....its muslims first everyone else last. So, if you value things like free speech, equality, freedom to practice religion or freedom from religion you need to wise up n understand why muslims should be kept to a minority.....Because it wont be you who suffers for your lack of knowledge....it will be the future generations.... "i dont judge...bad people are everywhere." Unfortunately so are wishy washy idiots... as you have just proven
