Why are people so demanding about seeing diversity in certain positions? Metaverseguy: First, it was we must have minorities as CEOs, then let them in baseball and sports, give them careers in show business, music, as lawyers and doctors, elect them president. Now some people are saying we have to elect Mrs. Clinton because she's a woman and there has never before been a woman president. What does it matter? Does piling on these affirmative action "milestones" really impact people in a positive manner? It's not going to stop racism, sexism, bigotry. I'm sick and tired of people saying there needs to be a person in this career field who is black/latino/gay/jew/woman/whatever rather than they are the best person suited for the position. Just because white men have typically held certain positions doesn't mean that the system is corrupt, or that all white men are inherently evil. Metaverseguy: Remember when they started sending people to the moon? Oh we need a woman up there it's no fair it's all men. We need a colored person up there. A chinaman. A dolphin. Then they sent a chimp up there and everyone shut up. Once a monkey got sent into space everyone got afraid. If they sent someone after a monkey and they screwed up they'd really look pretty stupid. | Politics Chat Room 24 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
