Overheard on the radio - duh voice uh duh peepul! davesdatahut: Overheard on my ride home, thanks to All Things Consdered on NPR and their reporting on whether Kay Hagan, D-North Carolina, can keep her seat after one term, amid the Obamacare problems: This, from a 71-year-old voter interviewed for the story. As I recall it.... "Ah votid fer Haygun the first tahm. But after all ahm heerinabowt this Ohbawmuh Fund, the more ah theenk ah aint votin fer her agayin." Yes, yes, it's that dern Obama Fund. There you have it - duh voice uh duh peepul! The good thing about democracy is that the people get to vote. The bad thing about democracy is that the people get to vote. (Edited by davesdatahut) davesdatahut: That would require remedial everything. And even then, I'm not sure any progress would be made. davesdatahut: You speak of a nearly impossible task. When someone gets to the age of 71 paying that little attention to the world, there is not much that can be done. Perhaps those age 7 can still be reached before they start talking like the above-referenced genius. davesdatahut: It is called social studies.Somehow we have forgotten to teach kids how to pay attention to the world around them. davesdatahut: It needn't be about politics. It needs to be about instilling in people a desire to know about the world, as opposed to blissfully or unknowingly plodding through life along ignorance avenue.. atavic: well joseph stalin once said and i paraphrase ,the running of the state is far to important a thing to be left in the hands of the people, however i'm not sure i'm crazy about the alternatives. | Politics Chat Room 27 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
