Southern states remain woefully uneducated (Page 5)
harlett anathema: when you have children who refuse too learn... you find out Y....then deal with it....
you don't keep trying too force them too sit in ordinary class room that is working for students of a different mind.........frustrating & dis-interesting them even further............
OCD_OCD: Yep. It takes effort on the part of the school AND the students and their parents. We have thrown tons of money at the problem and the effects are nil.
harlett anathema: isn't that because the neighborhoods these children go home into have gotten worse....
inner city children have it the worse....has anyone seen Detroit Michigan lately....
most southern children whom might be poor and lacking in things at least have plenty of places to go and PLAY PLAY.....when not being made too do household chores the grown up refuses to do..or isn't parenting the younger children....
a child whose refusing too learn..is different from a child whose mind is preoccupied...yet..what they have in common is a disinterested parent............& for some of them the added pressures of their neighborhoods
(Edited by harlett anathema)
ala_freaking_bama: agreed harlett some children cannot learn mentally cant learn or cant learn as quick
harlett anathema: excuse me....this has fired up my once upon a time....public health nurse aspiration's and guardian angel who can wield the forces of legions many too tame those who'd do innocence harm...
i need to go & inspire some 1 more suitable .. for it...............
OCD_OCD: That's why we have remedial classes. Their learning ability needs to match their curriculum. You can't ignore the fact that some children are unable to learn the same way others are.
While you can offer them the proper education, no one can force an education on someone who refuses. Should the government be allowed to force anything on someone because they think it is "for their own good"?
OCD_OCD: I don't think Dave meant to intentionally stereotype.
"White men can't jump". On the whole, it would seem to be true, however, there are lots of white basketball players. Are there more professional black basketball players? Yes, but it doesn't make one less or more capable than the other. We went to a Mavericks game and the black guys next to us kept laughing and hollering "FOUL ON THE COURT!" I was clueless so I asked them what foul because I didn't see a foul. Even hubs knew the answer and let me walk right into it. The "foul" was 3 white guys on a professional basketball court. You've gotta admit, that was funny.
Are Jewish basketball players better than Catholic basketball players? Who knows and who cares? I'm not sure what the point of knowing that would be.
Are Dominicans and Puerto Ricans better baseball players? Who in the heck knows or cares. Baseball is a major sport in the DR and is also a way for a Dominican kid with talent to excel as a professional athlete. Yet another anomaly.
harlett anathema: what is proper education.. forcing fake dates too be remembered...white washed history...
take care of a child's body, open that child up to being socialized, not ostracized...engage them creatively in learning to read & write..You'll have a class full children willing too take part....in science and math, creative thinking.....
you know.. i recently watched a new discovery or history channel doc.. on the discovery of the America's...and how the first explorers cut loose animals they were carrying here & there...planted plants..
butt.... while they spoke of the diseases the Europeans brought with them.. that killed the natives of northern and south American's..they actually thought too lie and say.... that the South Americans infected those Europeans with syphilis.. instead of the other way around...
a little less white washing and lies in educating children go a long way... don't ya think....
mean while...for most of them.. those neighborhoods have gotten colder that they go home too.. so their energy is focused on surviving....and taking their place ....
again.. were not speaking about beverly hills....where there are slower learners....
were speaking of much different causes for the disinterest in a education from these children....
davesdatahut: We're getting a little off the geography, and why southern educational levels are so far behind, but it's on point to the general education discussion still....
An interesting article about one really rich school district up here in the NYC metro area grappling with uneven performance and racial/ethnic issues. This town is in the North, not the South. But still with some similar issues

davesdatahut: Some updated figures on education in the US show the continued and huge gap between southern and northern states, which goes hand in hand with the income gap. Here are new numbers from the Census Bureau from 2012. What, if anything, is or should be done to close this yawning gap? And why do we hear so little about this in the southern political campaigns, which seem to be all about god, Christianity, repealing Obamacare and rolling back government spending?
States with the lowest percentage of adults with college degrees:
West Virginia - 18.6 %
Mississippi - 20.7 %
Arkansas - 21.0 %
Kentucky - 21.8 %
Louisiana - 22.0 %
The bottom 10 also includes Alabama, Oklahoma and Tennesee.
States at the top.The numbers are nearly double:
Massachusetts - 39.3%
Colorado - 37.5 %
Connecticut - 37.1%
Maryland - 36.9 %
New Jersey - 36.2%
The top 10 also includes Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and Minnesota
This matches closely with the states having the lowest median household incomes:
Mississippi - $37,095
Arkansas - $40,112
West Virginia - $40,196
Alabama - $41,574
Kentucky - $41,724
The bottom 10 also includes Tennesee, Louisiana, South Carolina and Oklahoma
The top 5 are more than 50 % higher. The gap is huge:
Maryland - $71,222
New Jersey - $69,667
Alaska - $67,712
Connecticut - $67,276
Hawaii - $66,259
The top 10 also includes Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Minnesota and Delaware.

AretoNyx: Sadly the US still remains terrible in education to most incarcerated. Conspiracies full of aggressiveness are worshipped instead of having helpful facts better the world most often. Some want to watch the world burn in greed corruption?
JaclynW: Those lowest Median incomes are still pretty high. I agree that learning can't be forced. If someone with a learning disability gets a degree, which i dont think this could really happen without extreme effort, they may not be able to get a job anyway. Or may get a job fooling the community and then what. Though usually this is determined in k-12. Is it bigotry to not endorsed people with learning being in public office? Shouldn't people in public office be required have a degree?

JaclynW: Education levels are so far behind because people make money from keeping the population and because no one wants to implement a reduction strategy.
It's not that the population is against change.
I am more for "Separate, But Equal" where people without disability live get the same prices and separate facilities.
