davidk14
davidk14: NKorea...they sure do...you ever watch a full blown military parade from those NKoreans???? Holly crap! They sure must practice a lot to be able to march around for hours like that. Impressive. However...I prefer to watch like this..

Seriously....The NKoreans are scary...very, very scary.

lord_gord: social governing parties have never erected a socialist government. They are inhibited by capitalist involvement from outside parties. Socialist governments are attacked by private investors routinely and those investors are harboured by democratic governments.

chronology: There are no socialist countries today apart from Cuba and a few others. Yes they ran out of bathroom paper, and razors and soap and practicly every other essential day to day items. Most of those countries people were fascinated by everyday objects from America like cans of soup and cornflakes boxes and American TVs and radios. Most items manufactured in socialist countries were very basic drab and unreliable. But there were exceptions. Russian cameras and east German motorcycles were well made and sturdy long lasting items. A sad day for many biker's was when the MZ motorcycle ended it's manufacture the bike was odd looking but a true legend for reliability. Most folks from socialist countries would have been astonished to walk around a local Walmart. They could not believe Americans lived with such abundance and choice of foods.

SWlNE:
Yet Cuba has excelled in the most important things as healthcare and literacy rate while Americans generates the most waste. Not sure about you but I'd opt for good healthcare than an aisle of products selling the same things in differently coloured packages.

I hope Cuba wouldn't allow itself to be flooded with US companies as Walmart.
The focus should be on local products and on their economy. More trading with Latin American countries, the Caribbean, Asia and Europe.

Here is a bit of reality on the influence of the over 'abundance', you should take a read Chronology:

chronology: Filth. American and Cuban health systems are completely different. Americans see health care as a consumer product while Cubans see it as a Utility. In the West most Doctors want nothing to do with low class 'customers' while Cuban doctors do not have the freedom to choose to work for high wages with consumer goods thrown into the deal. Two different systems.

SWlNE:
The only difference is one is superior and working better than the other. That one is Cuba. Cuba's healthcare system is a fine model, one that can be utilised by any country. All this with limited resources and economic sanctions. Their focus is on research and development. Nothing to do with 'customers'. They have extended their assistance to Third World countries. Including training doctors from other countries. I can go on and on on this but I don't want to seem as if I'm boasting.

You're happy about Walmart, a can of peas with 40 different labels and 40 different prices but can't focus on what is really important. That is failure. 40 different pills and 40 different prices all which can't ease the medical problem. That is failure. Perhaps there is much more to learn from socialist countries and assessing where your system is failing at the most important things of life.

Captain Canada
Captain Canada: Filth That's totally true about Cuban medical professionals
I have traveled massively in that beautiful island over the years ,I have stayed mostly in resorts the first few years and than in "Quintas" in the interior away from tourist area the last 6years .Cuban doctors (and I honestly believe in recognize that those men and women are the true Doctors) without all the fancy equipment or pharmaceutical aid that the westerners have they still manage to be 100% better than Yankess or the Canucks
I have seen future doctors from various African and Latin American nations study in the island
In 2009 there was a young lady from Canada and a young American lad also studying medicine
I wouldn't even talk about the Cuban education system because it will make Northern people look like morons

Dennae:
I might be a skeptic but how come after US fails a coup against Chavez in 2002, who dies and the new leader continues not to sell oil to the US. The US retaliates by calling Venezuela a threat to US security and imposes sanctions (although not against oil) and all of a sudden Venezuela's economy is hurting.

Does it really have to do with being a Socialist Country? It's been one for a while now.

barteeSA: You can take Australia off that list. Whilst we have a rudimentary health system that is funded from the public purse, in order not to be bankrupted if you get seriously ill, you need private insurance. Our health system is very much "user pays" and "pay for the level of care you can afford". Any specialist has well and truly embraced the American way, to pay for your health or stay sick or even die.

Both the "left' and the "right' wing govts, ( apart from being incompetent, which is an international problem) are systematically undermining any "socialist" aspects of that legislation, since the budget boffins have calculated, the country can't afford it with the baby boomers on the way to become the biggest users of the services.
