Drug test + welfare = about darn time!

motherfingsuperwoman
motherfingsuperwoman: Florida is the first state that is now going to require drug testing for welfare! Some people are crying this is unconstitutional. How is this unconstitutional but it's completely legal that every other working person had to pass a drug test in order to support those on welfare?

I think all states should follow Florida. You want a handout, keep yourself clean! Simple as that.

Bet you don't know why so many folks who would not want drug tests have their own exclusive barbers and hairdressers hey?

FogofWar: They do test politicians genius. They also submit criminal record checks for them as well. Their lives are scrutinized 10 fold what yours is; and their private lives are also subject to public scrutiny.

Many companies today have began doing drug testing; and they have every legal right to do so. There is nothing unconstitutional about making sure that your employees are not illegally abusing illegal substances; it's called professionalism.

The difference is: as an employed person; I am using the money I earn to spend on what I want, and what I can afford. As an employed person; I cannot turn to the government for aid, should my drug habit leave me no money for rent/food.

As a person on welfare; you are relying on the state to provide; as you cannot afford to for yourself. If you cannot afford food or rent on your own; then why should the state pay for your drug habit? Use that money for what is needed.

Ever notice that the only people who oppose welfare drug testing are those on welfare that use drugs??

Canada is now considering implementing this law as well. I hope we do.

Malobear: Depends on what type of drug test they are talking about. A piss test is a joke and a waste of taxpayers money, anyone can alter those test. The ideal test would be DNA hair strand test, but this is costly.
Have to keep a eye on this and see which way they go.

Shoot I tried to beat a drug test years ago(when I was 17) to get a job at safeway. The stupid cleansing tea made me vomit and piss clear, they called back for a retest.

FogofWar: That's also the point of random drug testing; which is what they are talking about doing for Canadian welfare...not sure about in Florida however.

Random testing doesn't give you the opportunity to take any cleansers...they show up knocking one day and say "piss into this".

That's how our drug tests work in the Army as well. One day, after morning parade; they make us line up and fill a cup....no notice at all. Makes it harder to cheat then.

That was a good point about the bailout money and testing the financial people that received bailout money.
What is next? Checking my glucose levels or cholesterol?

Malobear: There are chemicals that are sold on the Internet Fog that come in a vial the 1/3 size of your picky that will change the value of any urinalysis test. Hell, there is one site that guarantees your money back if you fail. The days of urinalysis testing are coming to a close Fog because the people and the government that require testing are fully aware of these things out in the open market.
DNA testing is something no one can fool with. As you all know,DNA testing has convicted and freed a many person these last recent years,at least in this country. This same type of testing is also being employed by Law enforcement and certain branch's within the U.S. Military to test recruitment personnel such as the F.B.I. and Secret Service.
When urinalysis testing first started,it too was a expensive process to do for its time but as time passed the cost went down. DNA testing is very new,so as time passes, it too will become cheaper to perform,

Oz,you seem to like the idea of drug testing on the rich folks in this country, and while thats fine. The two things that these two types of people have in common is they both are receiving taxpayers dollars. So whether you are receiving bailout money or welfare, you should be tested. Believe me,if the rich folks are getting tested,so will the people farther down the food chain, thats the way it works in the land of milk and honey.

FogofWar: I know about those products Malo; but the purpose of random tests is to eliminate the ability to use these. Of course there will be people that get the chance; but many won't.

Our drug tests in the army are spontaneous and monitored. We form up in the morning for morning parade; and when there is a test; we just are not dismissed. We stand in a line; and follow a monitor into the bathroom who watches to make sure you don't cheat it. Unless you are taking these products all the time; you will not get the opportunity to use them all the time.

It's not fool proof; but then again most people using drugs aren't always the sharpest either.

DNA testing is far, far more accurate and near, if not impossible to skew; but it does cost more. I still think any testing is better than no testing.

Qz: first off , I have NEVER received gov assistance, In the form of food stamps, disability ect or anything other. I have been steadily employed since the age of 17.
Second, I do not smoke pot, or drink.
My point is this. The gov has no business to search my body to see if they approve of what is inside.

superquad3: I'm a quadriplegic that owns my own business, but before that I worked 12 years and I prolly hade to take 50 drug tests. I still pay taxes too and require the people that work for me to take random drug tests. I feel that I can speak for both sides. I collect SSDI now to help me. BTW, thank you all. I am in FULL agreeance that you should have to stay off drugs to collect welfare, SSI, SSDI, or any other assistance from the government. I was a mechanical engineer before being in a wheelchair, making great money for my family. I would see others with 10 kids and surviving better than me. How is that right? Well, we need another new car, let's pop out another kid and buy some pills on the way. I believe in a zero tolerance policy on drugs vs. support. The government is a trickle system and it starts at the top.
