Conservatism And Artistic Creativity

StuckInTheSixties
StuckInTheSixties: Why are there so few conservatives that are famous, or noteworthy, for their artistic creativity? Pick your branch of art - music, film, television, visual arts, stage, drama, comedy, etc. ... they are ALL under-represented by people with conservative political leanings.

And conversely, of course, people of an artistic nature tend to lean to the liberal end of the political spectrum.

There are exceptions ... there are a fair number of novelists and other writers with conservative leanings. Country music has a wide swath of conservatism. And elsewhere, there are exceptions.

But those are EXCEPTIONS. Creative artists with conservative leanings are, essentially, aberrations.

Why is this so?

StuckInTheSixties: Taking a cursory glance of that list of 429, three thoughts cross my mind:

First, it's not a list of conservative creative artists, but rather, as the list is titled, a list of conservative CELEBRITIES (such as athletes, etc., although many on the list don't really even qualify as celebrities).

Second, if a counterpart list was made, it would, of course, dwarf this list.

Finally, you avoided the question - the intent of this blog (and allowing me to reinforce it) - which is to solicit ideas as to WHY CREATIVE ARTISTS are so seldom conservative politically.

My topic specifically refers to CREATIVE ARTISTS, not celebrities. There's an overlap between those two groups, of course, but they're distictly different.

Outbackjack: I think you are being extremely unfair 60s.

Wall Street created the Global Financial crisis and mass unemployment.
George Bush created the Iraq war.
Margaret Thatcher created a wasteland through the north of England and Scotland.
Ronald Reagan created huge tax cuts for his rich mates.
Even our previous conservative Premier ,Richard (Dick) Court, created a huge phallic symbol to himself in the form of the Perth Belltower.

They were all very creative.

Har-har.

You've made your token political point and attempt to goad someone into a fight. Hopefully they'll ignore you, because they've heard it from you many times in the past.

But back to my point ...

Why are there so few conservatives that are famous, or noteworthy, for their artistic creativity?

That question is:

FogofWar: Because artists often use the right side of their brain; whereas the conservative mainframe is the essence of left brain thinking.

The right side of your brain is more geared to functioning feelings; imagination, symbolism, philosophy and religion, and fantasy.

The right side of your brain is geared more to functioning words and language; math and science, order/pattern perception, is more logical; and is based in reality, not fantasy.

Artists are often 'airy-fairy' because they are living in a realm of fantasy essentially. They don't look at things as rationally.

The degree in which your brain interacts between the left and right side will determine your personality; as well as your political affiliation. People who use almost exclusively their left side of the brain will be conservative through and through; people who use almost exclusively their right side of the brain will be more artistic; and well….weird.

The more balanced their brain is; the more their personality will reflect both sides of brain functions. Hence some artists will be conservative; and some conservatives will be illogical.

That being said; you cannot classify all people based on their political and artistic abilities; as there are always exceptions to the rules. I happen to be an artist who is very conservative...yet my conservatism is not always in agreeance with other conservatives.
