China Bans All TV & Film That Show Time Travel

Koko_Krunch
Koko_Krunch: No more Star Trek, Doctor Who for the Chinese...

Banning time travel from entertainment just because it might give the people an idea to "change/correct" China's violent past? How absurd is that??

All this suppression is guaranteed to lead to an uprising in China one day.

Hopefully we'll see some replies from the Chinese spies on this forum.

From the Telegraph UK

'China’s regulators have imposed tough new conditions on television production because such plots are “frivolous” and do not respect history.

Officials say that many dramas that feature time travel “lack positive thoughts and meaning” and feature fabricated plots.

But critics condemned the proposal and said it was the latest effort by Chinese censors to crackdown on dissent.

Chinese authorities are known for strictly censoring newspapers, film and TV programs that are deemed “unhealthy”. '

FogofWar: yet wireclubbers here whine about their own nation oppressing them. Could you imagine if those people lived in a place like China; where they don't have the liberties so many here take for granted?

It's ironic that while people in western nations whine about their liberties being oppressed; they have the civil liberty to rise up and restore their order in the way they deem fit...yet they are obviously too lazy to. Meanwhile in nations like China; they don't even have these civil liberties...yet which one do you think would revolt first? Guaranteed it won't be the lazy westerners.

If only people could actually understand what it's like to be oppressed...maybe the rest of the world would finally care enough to take a stand against real oppression; not imaginary oppression based on Hollywood movies and youtube videos.

chronology
chronology: The main objection the Chines Authorities have to movies and T.V. about 'Time Travel' is that time travel is impossible, and never will be possible, so it is pure fantasy.

Hollywood sees time travel as 'unlikely but not impossible'. Also Hollywood is faced with occasional News stories of people who insist they have traveled in time. Here are two examples. Two English ladies in 1901 say that when they were walking in the Gardens of Versailles they somehow traveled back to the past in French History where they were among French Aristocrats enjoying a spot of fun in the park.

Another case was the Simpsons and the Gisby couple who were driving through France in 1979 where they stayed at a Hotel. Later they could not find the Hotel at all. They are convinced they somehow travelled back in time.

Movies like 'Room 1408' are Time Travel movies of sorts. The public report experiences like that, so Hollywood makes movies like that.

One man summed his views up of Simpson and Gisby's experiences; 'what a load of crap. They stayed at a hotel, and later could not find it, big deal, I have done that'.

Well there you go, who do you think is right? Hollywood who make time travel movies reflecting peoples reported experiences? Or the Chinese Communist Party who say time travel is all B.S.?

FogofWar: Hollywood sees time travel as 'unlikely but not impossible'.

Hollywood doesn't care if it's plausible or not. Hollywood does not base any of their actions on fact. Even their "inspired by true events" stories are fairy tales. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was "inspired by true events"; the true event was Ed Gein; who lived in Wisconsin and shot two people. Some true events there hey?

99.9% of Hollywood movies are impossible. What about Angelina Jolie curving a bullet by swinging her arm as she fired? 100% implausible. Under no circumstances is this possible; even with a robotic arm. Hollywood has no interest in being "real".

For a government to ban time travel because it is not plausible is a government telling it's people they are not allowed an imagination.

"Well there you go, who do you think is right? Hollywood who make time travel movies reflecting peoples reported experiences? Or the Chinese Communist Party who say time travel is all B.S.?"

…apparently you take movies way too seriously chronology.

The following are a list of Hollywood events that never occurred in any form; just to clarify for you:

Star Wars
Star Trek
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ("based" on a "true story"
Gladiator
Hostel
Saw
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Scream
American Pie
Flyboys ("based" on a "true story"
Dawn of the Dead (sorry pal…zombies don't really exist)
Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler can actually skate; and cannot drive a ball 400 yards)
…..I think you get the point.

chronology: I never expected you to grasp what I was saying Fog, but after seeing your taste in Movies I know why; Texas Chain Saw Massacre, American Pie, Hostel, charming. There is a new Movie out now Fog, said to be more disgusting and violent than anything before, right up your street hey fog? enjoy.

And David, sorry to shatter your delusions, never mind, when you leave school and join the adult world you and Fog will go on to see a lot of what you believed to be true is pure fantasy. What charming people you two are. Still gives us all an insight into your minds.

FogofWar: When did I mention my taste in movies? My taste in movies is actually documentary/historical films; such as Black Hawk Down, The Red Baron, Troy, 300, and any other film that is actually based off of actual events. I also like to compare the reality of those events to the movies. Other than these types; I enjoy movies that have depth and require a little intellect to understand; as well as some comedies. I am a fan of Adam Sandler yes.

I'm not sure you grasp reality; so I guess we're even.

I'm still laughing at the thought that Hollywood cares about portraying elements of reality.

Hollywood=imagined worlds put into real life STYLE action on the movie screen.

China=banning something that is imagined.

Hmm...yah...which one is wrong indeed Chrono.

How about movies like Schindler's List? You think they should ban that one for being fantasy don't you?

It's alright Chrono....not everyone likes the ability to think freely.

Just saying, if China bans these tv programmes would it matter to the people there?
Watching the films coming out of Hollywood lately, I'd say they're missing nothing

Answer me honestly Fog, do you miss 'Panulit-type movies'? the World banned it 3 years ago.

Comrade_: ps:
"China has ordered TV stations across the country not to air any detective shows, spy thrillers or dramas about time-travel for the next three months."

"China's Communist Party is preparing to mark 90 years since its founding and the authorities want TV stations to air programmes praising the party instead."

-taken from BBC News, Beijing

-The anniversary is on 1st July..I'm guessing that the normal tv programmes will return after the 3 months.
