chronology: Mr David. With respect. President Obama, practically every other world leader, almost every person without an axe to grind have all described the Palestinians over all situation in Gaza and the West Bank as intolerable. There comes a time when you have to accept reality Mr David. But let us all listen to what Mr Obama is saying, and get on the American sponsored Peace Bus. Last night I was remembering Mr Obama's visit to Dresden Germany. For decades people have argued over the terrible attack on Dresden in WW2. But you know what? Mr Obama never argued, he went there (the first British and American leader to do so), in a spirit of good will and waved to the people of Dresden, they were just as noble, they cheered and greeted him. People can overcome the past, the Dresdeners and Mr Obama have given the world a fine example of that. Will Mr Obama win the next election? who knows, but take the opportunity for Peace while you can. Mr Obama did, the Dresdeners did. America's leaders today and the Dresdeners have shown the way forward. Peace.

davidk14: Oh stop already with the horse manure. Your great lord Obama is not the man you had hoped for and the American people are seeing through his crap. You should too!!! According to the latest polling average, his popularity as being a President, a leader, is dropping like a rock. It’s at an all time low of 46.9 % approval with the low being 43%. That’s disgraceful considering he came in with an approval rating close to 70% less than two years ago. So stop with the mightier than God syndrome already.

In your own words, numerous times you have stated what misery the poor Gazan’s are in. How horrible their conditions are. The lack of food, water, medical, the lack of concrete and steel to build the hospitals to care for the poor, poor children that are sick and homeless. And then I post a video showing purchasing power and prosperity. This video is not about the hospitals and schools and homes being rebuilt, but about a frickin two story shopping mall??? And you come up with some cxz# and bull about Dresden? Unbelievable!!!
The video I posted just shows how twisted and anti-Israel the media is.

Here is the video again for those reading this post:

Thousands of Human and Civil Rights activists on a daily basis report the hardship Palestinians face on a daily basis, and you come up with a shopping mall video. There are Nazi Newsreel Movies showing what lovely places Concentration Camps were. Happy Jews can be seen enjoying knitting and pleasant work tasks. Yeah, right.

davidk14: So the mall doesn’t exist? Israeli propaganda? Unbelievable.

It’s like showing the stacked bodies, the ovens full of bones, the mass open graves, the thousands of walking corpses at the 300 concentration camps that were liberated in 1945 and then denying that it ever existed, saying that it is Jewish propaganda.

You are out of your mind.

To even consider equating the Israeli’s to Nazi’s is the lowest form of hate propaganda you can come with. That’s even low for you John. All your posts have been pretty much anti-Semitic but this is a new low for you. But then, it makes sense since you support the Hamas Charter which calls for the extermination of all Jews.

Now if you want to compare Arab support for Nazi ideology, there’s plenty of historic documentation to support that.

chronology: Mr David, you are just ranting now. I am not and never have been 'anti-Israel', and who is 'john'.
Mr David, you just shout 'anti-Israel' if some one says 'do you not think Bulldozing down a Palestinians home just because snipers fired from near there is excessive'. The use of Bulldozers in Palestinian communities is condemned by Israeli Human Rights Groups. Using Bulldozers is like 'carpet bombing' a Palestinian neighborhood on the cheap. But let's all stay focused, Israel and the Palestinians can both benefit from American led Peace talks. America too can vastly improve it's image in the Muslim World, (there are signs America is becoming more accepted, and the unofficial Boycott of American goods is easing). Folks in Israel too are doing well now, but with Peace, they will be doing a whole lot better. But all you do is make excuses for the repression of Palestinians. And no am not saying Sudanese don't count. But why should American girls and boys sacrifice their lives alone? this has got to be a U.N. effort. American families have spent too much time at funerals in the last few decades.

But even when you take into account Political Window dressing in cancellations of U.S. Based contractors after a particularly bad news story involving Palestinians or Iraqis, the problem seems far more deep rooted in the Mid East psyche. 'Negative sentiment over American foreign policy in the region is what seems to be holding back American Exports to the region', concluded one analyst. Hopefully the improving political situation should begin to see more acceptance of American made goods in the region.

davidk14: Chrono,

First, destroying the homes of the snipers and bombers is nothing to what they could do. Sounds like a reasonable response to murder and attempted murder. Yes? What would you do if your countrymen were being targeted by snipers and terrorism?

To have peace, you need all the parties to come to the table “wanting” to achieve peace. Not all the parties, specifically Hamas, want or desire peace.

The following are statements made by Hamas:

"We have liberated Gaza, but have we recognized Israel? Have we given up our lands occupied in 1948? We demand the liberation of the West Bank, and the establishment of a state in the West Bank and Gaza, with Jerusalem as its capital – but without recognizing [Israel]. This is the key – without recognizing the Israeli enemy on a single inch of land. ...
"Our plan for this stage is to liberate any inch of Palestinian land, and to establish a state on it. Our ultimate plan is [to have] Palestine in its entirety. I say this loud and clear so that nobody will accuse me of employing political tactics. We will not recognize the Israeli enemy. "
(Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, Future News TV, June 15, 2010, Source: MEMRI.org)

"...the Jewish faith does not wish for peace nor stability, since it is a faith that is based on murder: 'I kill, therefore I am'... Israel is based only on blood and murder in order to exist, and it will disappear, with Allah's will, through blood and Shahids [martyrs]."
(Dr. Yussuf Al-Sharafi, Hamas representative, as reported by Palestinian Media Watch)

"[Hamas will] never recognize the legitimacy of the Zionist state that was founded on our land."
(Khaled Mashaal, Hamas leader, Al-Hayyat al-Jedida)

"We do not recognize the Israeli enemy, nor his right to be our neighbor, nor to stay (on the land), nor his ownership of any inch of land.... We are interested in restoring our full rights to return all the people of Palestine to the land of Palestine. Our principles are clear: Palestine is a land of Waqf (Islamic trust), which can not be given up."
(Mahmoud Zahar, Hamas leaderl, Palestinian TV, Newsday)

"By God, we will not leave one Jew in Palestine. We will fight them with all the strength we have. This is our land, not the Jews..."

"You will have no security except outside the homeland Palestine.... We have Allah on our side, and we have the sons of the Arab and Islamic nation on our side."
(Abdel Aziz Rantisi, Hamas leader, interview with Al-Jazeera, Jerusalem Post)

These are words from the mouths from Hamas leadership. I have posted many times their racist Charter yet you keep saying Israel is the mean guy here. If you believe that the Palestinians should be treated better, then they should start acting like responsible human beings and denounce racism and murder.

"[Hamas] will not change a single word in its covenant [which is calling for the destruction of Israel]."
(Mahmoud Zahar, Hamas leader, after casting his vote in the Gaza Strip, Ha'aretz)

Interesting that now that Israel has allowed more supplies into Gaza that the price of products from Israel are much cheaper than what products are coming in from Egypt. I guess you’ll accuse Israel of something here as well.

Hamas slams UN for denouncing flotillas
07/24/2010 18:04

Hamas harshly criticized the UN on Saturday for an announcement made Friday which denounced the use of flotillas to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported.

On Friday, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky responded to reports that a flotilla of two Lebanese ships was set to sail for Gaza, stating that those who wish to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza should do so by land and not attempt to break Israel's sea blockade of the territory. Hamas called these statements tantamount to "collaboration with the Israeli occupier."

"The UN call to international organizations to use the over-land road to Gaza instead of the sea is unacceptable and illegal," said Hamas Spokesman Sami Abu Zahri.

Abu Zahri called on groups who are interested in delivering aid to Gaza to continue to do so by sea until the blockade of the territory is completely broken.

The Navy deployed ships at sea to stop the Lebanese boats which were scheduled to leave for Gaza from Tripoli sometime over the weekend.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak called the planned Lebanese flotilla "an unnecessary provocation" on Friday, stating that the ships would be "stopped at sea" if they failed to heed Navy orders to dock at Ashdod Port rather than sailing directly for Gaza.

Palestinians in Gaza invest $20m. in new resorts
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
07/29/2010 00:01

After the shopping mall and several fancy restaurants, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have recently invested around $20 million in new seaside and tourist resorts.

According to sources in there, thousands of Palestinian families have started visiting the resorts, which offer a wide range of attractions.

The boom in the local tourism industry is largely attributed to the fact that the underground smuggling business along the border has become less profitable since Israel’s recent decision to allow various goods into the Gaza Strip reduced prices of many items significantly.

Moreover, the Israeli and Egyptian crackdown on the underground tunnels has made it too risky and expensive to continue operating them. Dozens of Palestinians have been killed while working in the tunnels over the past few years.

As a result, many investors who used to put a lot of money into the smuggling business have shifted their attention to other projects, including the seaside resorts.

Samir Saed, owner of Crazy Water Park in Gaza City, said that until now, restaurants had been the only entertainment sites for most families. He rejected allegations that the owners of the resorts were charging high fees and offering expensive food. He said his resort was charging only NIS 10 per person for a variety of attractions, including a clean beach and playgrounds.

Ahmed Sani, owner of one of the city’s fancy tourist resorts, said he established his business after renting a plot on the beach from the Hamas-run municipality.

“I’m renting for a period of five years,” he told the Hamas-affiliated Web site Al-Resalah. “It’s in the interest of the citizen to have as many resorts as possible so that there could be competition.”

Mueen Abu Khair, owner of a popular seaside fish restaurant, said the Gaza Strip had witnessed a “revolution” this summer in the field of local tourism. He estimated that local businessmen had so far invested $15m. to $20m. in an unprecedented number of tourist projects throughout the Strip.

“Many investors now prefer to put their money in businesses that are safe and more profitable than the underground tunnels,” said economist Mueen Rajab. “Most of the money is now being invested in vehicles, restaurants, supermarkets, boutiques and stores for electrical appl

davidk14: PLO official: Obama warns Abbas bilateral ties might suffer if he rejects talks with Israel
Published July 31, 2010
| Associated Press

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — President Barack Obama warned Mahmoud Abbas in a letter that U.S.-Palestinian relations might suffer if the Palestinian leader refuses to resume direct peace talks with Israel, a senior PLO official said Saturday.

The White House had no comment Saturday. However, the Obama administration has been pushing Abbas hard in recent days to move quickly to face-to-face negotiations.

The PLO official said Obama sent the letter — the strongest U.S. warning to Abbas yet — on July 16.

Abbas insists he will only negotiate once Israel commits to the idea of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, with minor modifications. He also wants Israel to freeze all settlement construction in those areas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refuses to be pinned down ahead of talks and has put in place only a 10-month freeze in housing starts in the West Bank that is due to expire in September.
Earlier this week, senior Palestine Liberation Organization members were briefed on the latest attempts to restart talks. During the meeting, an Abbas aide summarized the main points of Obama's letter, said the PLO official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the letter has not been made public.

"In this letter, Obama asked Abu Mazen (Abbas) to go to direct negotiations and (wrote) that he can't help the Palestinians unless they go to direct negotiations," the official said. "Obama said he expects Abu Mazen to agree to this demand, and that not accepting it would affect the relations between the Palestinians and the Americans."

davidk14: Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat insisted the letter did not refer to Palestinian-U.S. ties. Erekat said Obama wrote that he remains committed to establishing a Palestinian state, but that his ability to help will be limited if Abbas does not resume negotiations.
Negotiations between Abbas and Netanyahu's predecessor broke off in December 2008.

Palestinians are wary of resuming talks with the hardline Netanyahu without reaching agreement first on an agenda, a timetable and a framework. Netanyahu has said he is eager to negotiate, but has refused to pick up where the last round left off and has said he will never relinquish east Jerusalem, the Palestinians' hoped-for capital.

Since early May, White House envoy George Mitchell has been shuttling between Abbas and Netanyahu. Such indirect talks were to last for up to four months. Abbas' aides have said they want the indirect talks to run their course before deciding whether to move to direct negotiations, but the White House wants to move to face-to-face talks now.

On Thursday, Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo endorsed the idea of direct negotiations, but left the timing up to Abbas.

On Monday, the PLO's top decision-making body, the Executive Committee, will be asked to make a recommendation.

"The Palestinians are between a rock and a hard place," said committee member Hanan Ashrawi.

She said public opinion in the Palestinian territories opposes talks without ironclad guarantees, but that Abbas would be blamed by the world if negotiations don't get off the ground.

The push for peace talks came at a time of renewed violence on the Gaza-Israel border.

On Friday, Gaza militants fired a rocket at the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon, causing damage but no injuries.

The violence came after weeks of relative calm and raised concerns of further escalation.
