Comrade_:
It's too early for me to start selling soft drinks in the black market? If all goes well I can get the drug cartels to give up the drugs and start picking up on the soda business.

LiptonCambell: Lol the beauty of coke zero and pepsi zero is people buy significantly less of them...

Wouldn't that imply people WANT more sugar? Certainly there's a market for diet drinks, but the majority of people choose the less healthy alternative- shouldn't we respect their choice?

Should we burden hospitals, schools, health insurance companies, let people ruin their families, let them perform incompetently in their companies just because they are lazy or genetically inclined to neglect their diets and health?

LiptonCambell: >>>Should we burden hospitals, schools, health insurance companies

I never liked that argument. It's circular logic- that we should have more laws and programs because we have more laws and programs, which means we need more laws and programs, which means we should have more laws and programs- which leads to more laws and programs.

People have rights- this is something I have to keep going back to in this thread for some reason- and regardless if you think you know how those people could live a better life, it is not your decision to make. And if the reforms that have been enacted are in contradiction with the rights of the individual...well then, it sounds like a bad law to me, not a bad freedom....

>>>let people ruin their families, let them perform incompetently in their companies just because they are lazy or genetically inclined to neglect their diets and health?

So you would rather meddle and control their lives than allow people to make bad choices?

Weren't you given the opportunity to learn from your mistakes? Why do you feel you need to deny people the same freedom? Or, moreover, shouldn't people be given the opportunity to at least try to live their lives differently than you? Are you so certain that all must do as you do, and wish to stifle all others?

How much Art, Music, and Creativity would have been lost to the world had these people simply been whipped into line?

Metaverseguy: If people are too careless to stop eating big macs everyday and slurping down 200 oz sodas then we should at least do something to encourage them to stop slowly killing themselves. Think about it. Not only are these people too fat to do anything remotely useful they are also always ugly. I'd rather have better looking women than better comedies.

LiptonCambell: >>>If people are too careless to stop eating big macs everyday and slurping down 200 oz sodas then we should at least do something to encourage them to stop slowly killing themselves.

Why?

Again, the question is why do you feel you need to tell people how to live? Shouldn't they be free to live their lives as it makes sense to them, even if it is self-destructive?

Certainly there must be some aspect to your life that SOMEONE disagrees with- would you feel content if these people FORCED you to do things as they believe, regardless if you wish to make the choice yourself? Or do you only apply such standards to fatties?

>>>Not only are these people too fat to do anything remotely useful they are also always ugly.

Not all fat people(or ugly people, for that matter) are fat because of their diets- their bodies just work differently than yours. To pass judgement, and treat these people as sub-human certainly paints a picture as to why you think you oughta tell them what to do.

Hey I have an idea ... eating too much salt can lead to cardiovascular problems, let's ban salt. There's a word for that mindset Casanova, fascism.

LiptonCambell: Banning fatty foods will not bring an end to fat people. It goes beyond simply controlling what people eat- if nothing else, people WANT to eat fatty foods and drink fatty drinks. They have the option to eat or drink healthy, and they choose not to do it- Why force them?
