Sarcastic Dots: Gilad Sharon: "We should flatten all of Gaza", comparing to Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Son of Ariel Sharon in an interview on Jerusalem Post:

"We need to flatten entire neighborhoods in Gaza. Flatten all of Gaza," states Sharon in The Jerusalem Post.

The violence between Israel and Hamas this week has reportedly claimed the lives of 81 Palestinians, including 37 civilians, as well as 3 Israeli civilians. Current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that "the Israeli military is prepared to significantly expand the operation."

Sharon writes in his op-ed, entitled "A decisive conclusion is necessary," that "the residents of Gaza are not innocent, they elected Hamas. The Gazans aren’t hostages; they chose this freely, and must live with the consequences." After saying that Israel needs to "flatten all of Gaza," he goes on to say, "The Americans didn’t stop with Hiroshima – the Japanese weren’t surrendering fast enough, so they hit Nagasaki, too."

He concludes his defense of Israel's actions with a hawkish message:

There is no middle path here – either the Gazans and their infrastructure are made to pay the price, or we reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip. Otherwise there will be no decisive victory. And we’re running out of time – we must achieve victory quickly. The Netanyahu government is on a short international leash. Soon the pressure will start – and a million civilians can’t live under fire for long. This needs to end quickly – with a bang, not a whimper.
A bio on the website for HarperCollins Publishers describes Sharon as follows:

Gilad Sharon is the youngest of former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon’s sons. Gilad holds a master’s degree in economics and writes a column for the prominent Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. A major in the Israel Defense Force reserves, he currently manages his family’s farm in Israel.

Sharon isn't alone in his militant tone. Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yishai is reported by The Yeshiva World News to have said, "We must blow Gaza back to the Middle Ages, destroying all the infrastructure including roads and water." Haaretz also reports that Yishai stated, "The goal of the operation is to send Gaza back to the Middle Ages."

If you want to go into that, then non-American Indians are not apart of her land and all Europeans and Africans, and Asians, etc. must leave the United States of America as well.

The issue Jack, is that there never was a country called Palestine. Israel was created from unclaimed land. When the UN created Israel, the UN THEN also created a country called "Palestinene" but....the Arabs said no way will there be an Israel and attacked the very next day trying to exterminate the Jews of 1948. However, the Jews won that war. They won the war of 1956, 1967, 1973, the 1st Infatada as well as the 2nd.

It's 2012. Israel is going nowhere. Get used to it...unless...you are on the side that supports the extermination of the 6 million Israeli Jews.

The Israeli military has now told the BBC that it intended to hit a house in Gaza on Sunday in an air strike which killed 10 members of the Dalou family, including four children. A spokesperson said it believed a senior Hamas militant, Yahia Rabiya, was hiding there. But the Israeli military said it did not know if Mr Rabiya was actually in the house when it was bombed.

Comrade_: Perhaps because there's no "Jewish" babies killed at this time. But just for you I'll post that as an update once it happens, if it'd make you feel a bit better on the whole situation.

When Hamas fires hundreds of missiles 'indiscriminately' into Israel trying to hit civilian population centers like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the Israeli military will try to find and eliminate the terrorists. Israel has hit about 1400 'Hamas military sites' in the last 6 days. Notice I said 'Hamas military sites'. I do not believe the BBC comments especially when they are themselves going through the turmoil they currently are going through.

-State your sources that the majority of aid comes from Israel. I know that the majority is sent by the US & by the EU.

-Good question, and it is argued that it is Israel's policies that are. And they do get aid from Arab nations, though I don't see why religion should be a factor.

Minor typo...I meant to say that Israel sends in the vast majority of humanitarian aid and Egypt sends in zero. However, most if not all of the medical treatments provided to Palestinian children is by Israel. Israel has operated on thousands of Palestinian children.

Palestinians do get aid from other Arab countries. But so little. Why? Palestinians should be very comfortable in their living conditions but the Arab world has not responded leaving the US and EU to fill the vast void of hundreds of millions, billions of dollars every year.

Comrade_: A child's religious status isn't important when reporting it. If you want to bring up past deaths of children that are jewish (note that not all in Israel is jewish, so I take it that you'd want to select the ones that are) to justify another death then I'd question that.

It is about land also, if you want to not see the whole issue, that one group thinks they're more entitled because of some 'Divine promise' from way-back and the other having militia groups wanting to erase them out.

The question still stands, the vast majority is not aid from Israel, and I recall the Gaza flotilla raid case. It is not important either on who sends what. Other Arab countries send as well as the International community.

The Egyptians are hardly exacerbating the situation and have been diplomatically seeking a ceasefire for days now. Nothing the Egyptians have done has been as venomously vindictive and counter-intuitive as the two sides actually fighting. Until the Egyptians start mobilising their military and actively forgo peace talks, you are creating baseless insinuations constructed on what you believe the Muslim Brotherhood are rather than the actions they are currently pursuing.

It seems, to me, that you thought the walls of Israel would come crumbling down as the Muslim Brotherhood claimed power, and now that, on the international stage, the Egyptians are appearing rational, you can't claim ALL Muslims and Muslim nations are against the state of Israel.

And finally, typing in caps doesn't make your statement any less cyclical. For every Israeli saying they have a right to defend themselves (they do) a Palistinian is saying the same thing. To say this conflict lay exclusively on the shoulders of one side is nationalist hysteria to inflame military action over diplomacy.
