Wild Flowers daisiesnfld: Wild Flowers . By chance I took an overgrown path Deep into forgotten woods Along a broken fence line Where gnarled trees now stood . A gate now rusted left unclosed Hung crooked to testify Other feet once trod the hard dry sod Made passage here as I . Closed off from the outside world Here not a sound was heard Yet living proof a path once made Lingering still once spoken words . Following a trail that faded now The woods were ever deep Until appeared the small clearing Someone once tried to keep . Here I heard the sounds of the woods Amidst the brambles and the thorns Unheard by those who passed on by The perching birds sang their song . The stately fence but rusted now Stood tall undaunted grasping sun Keeping watchful vigilance over those Whose work on earth was done . Stones all bore the same family name Of a hundred or more years ago Alongside the remains of a homestead Where the wild flowers now grow . © DaisiesNfld (Post deleted by eyeofthetiger2u7 ) daisiesnfld: I'm surprised you remembered that! But yes, it was actually. There's never a time I'm out there that I don't sit down and reflect back on the lives of all those there. One day (if & when time permits), I'm going to do some deeper research and see if perhaps I can locate their descendants..should be interesting.
