Wild Fire angpd: WILD FIRE It starts with just an ember In the distant forest green This dim originating glow By most can not be seen. The cinders drift from place to place From the cradle of their birth Fan out and touch the landscape To expand its length and girth From its point of derivation Flames no one will subdue Sparks spread now much more quickly A great fire will ensue. Flames rise and spread, consuming Most all that's in their path A blaze of red and orange A flaming fiery wrath. Now totally engulfed by flames The hillside's all aglow The flames now reach the valley And the town that's just below. But there's no engines now enroute No one to save the day. The flames allowed to jump the road Seize all that's in their way. Crowds gather round, as they will do Where flames are most profound Mere observers of the rampage As the flames dance all around These viewers aren't indifferent Not on some sadistic jaunt You see this happens every year It's Autumn in Vermont angpd: Thanks for your kind words. I think the best poem i have written, to date, is The Voyage, that can be found on my profile page. If you are interested. |
