SURRENDER laydeluck: Now the burdens overwhelming And my spirit's worn thin And I haven’t the desire To get up and start again. Now the challenge is unmet The flag of surrender flies It matters not to anyone else The excuses or the whys It matters not the critics taunts Or the hand that might support It matters not the kindness Or the quick and sharp retort No matter what is said or done The world will heed it not It matters not a single bit My actions or my thought. It matters not if loving hands Are those that caused my pain. Or if the blows were dealt by hands That long I have disdained. It matters not how long I stood If now I’m beaten down It matters not how long I smiled If now I wear a frown. If all the hopes, I ever hoped Have suddenly ceased to be It matters not to anyone… And least of all to me. For I’m to weary of the quest To badgered by the fall I cannot, will not rise again To answer duty’s call. I’m through, there’s nothing left to give No fire in my breast No will to face another day … For I have need of rest. I’ve given all I had to give There’s no more I can do You’ve crushed beneath your heel, sweetheart The spirit that loved you...
