Is Faith an Intellectual Short Cut to the Big Answers?

LiptonCambell
LiptonCambell: Does faith facilitate the circumvention of the exploration and development of one's own personal philosophy and opinions?

One might say that a religious faith dictating a code of morality, an explanation of where we came from and our purpose here on earth affords one a "fait accompli" blueprint for personal growth and development.

Contrast this with the plight of an atheist who, lacking the "Book of All Answers", must muck his way through his reality pondering, assessing, scrutinizing, discerning and ultimately deciding his own personal beliefs.

This question need not be limited to a discussion of religious faith. For example, those who have faith in the media, who do not question what they read, see and hear are spared the work (and it IS work) of researching the questions and issues themselves.

Therefore I ask - "Is faith a catapult that bypasses the work of discovery, allowing one to (colloquially) arrive at the finish line sooner?"

lori100: I would say yes, philosophy also works faster than say science to give answers. Some need it spelled out in extreme details, others don't. Science will eventually find truth and I think God also, it will just take them much longer...
