Is Political Correctness Leading To The Demise of Reason? (Page 2)

DEEP_acheleg
DEEP_acheleg: the way i look at it, pc speak is to curb baseless and subjective objections to certain labels. an accurate and valid label should not be discarded due to the arbitrary changes in what is acceptable language. it merely is a form of speech policing, which is the stepping stone of thought policing. if a historically acceptable word becomes offensive, then, outside of tact, the problem is not with the speech, the issue lies with thin skinned classes, whom just refuse to be labeled due to their arbitrary and irrational preferences. tact and sensitivity has its place; however, for little people to be offended at the valid termination; thus, the offensiveness of the word is solely based on emotional hair triggers.f someone has a mental block, does that change the evidence?

DEEP_acheleg
DEEP_acheleg: political correctness has its place, as was mentioned 2 posts ago- to allow one of an opposing view to digest the meaning behind the words withoudleading to an emotional reaction- yes, that is true. and some politically correct speak is valid- such as to refrain from some words which will necessarily reduce your debate opponent from emotional reactions, or accusations of insensitivity. the n word, or the b word, in most cases, surely a hair trigger for an emotional reaction. these words have practically no acceptable use at the present, due to those words being used historically as means of subjugation- and subjugation is always wrong between classes- as all people of any class still have the same human worth, and are considered equal in capabilities. these words may still are being used- but hopefully, only to denote when a separate, equal class continues to reenforce stereotypes thru their conduct. still, in this case, it is still rude, and should not be used to that persons face- unles you are close to the person, and they know you are not racist, but merely holding them to acceptable accountability.

where political correctness has gone to far can be exemplified with std being changed to sdi, and the call of little people claiming that the word midget is now offensive, although it has never been used as a word of subjugation. these words have no rational reasons to be considered offensive; thus, in these cases, the problem is not with the utterer of these words, but with the irrational oversensitivity of these classes. if this trend continues, we will be in the orwellian state of "newspeak"

Corwin: I think the motives of Political Correctness are not nearly so noble as you are implying, Outback...
... I think it's more about enforcing boundaries on what is acceptable to find humorous... legislating what is "funny".

I think this is a vain endeavor, and what is "funny" is legislated by Human nature, NOT by government enforced protocol.

If everybody had a sense of humor, there would be no need for the Political Correctness police.
----------------

That being said... okay... so a clergyman of a religious group, a clergyman of a different religious group, and a clergyman of yet a third religious group walk into a bar......
.... and the bartender (who happens to belong to a specific ethnic or racial minority group, and is blind and in a wheelchair) asks, "Hey, I'm just wondering how many of each of you it takes to change a light-bulb."

And they all reply in unison, "What do you care? You're blind and in a wheelchair. You would have no need, nor the ability to change such an electrical device."

And the bartender says, "I know... why else would it have been funny to say that?"

[insert sound of train-wreck here]

Outbackjack: Its not about having a sense of humour. When someone is being mocked because of their race its not really funny to the victim.

One persons humour is another persons xenophobia.

Corwin: This is why the ability to laugh at oneself is such a valuable character trait. It is very much about having a sense of humor... people take shit too seriously, and need to learn to lighten up a little.

There's an old saying - "In humor, nothing is sacred."

Trance 2014: on the other side of opinion,,having the belief and personality,,to be cold and ignore and close off feeling of a situation does not profit humanity or ourself either

closing the windows, curtains and locking the doors,
checking your guns for bullets and prepairing for war

hiding your head in your lap when on the subwyay or bus cause we dont want others to see ourself in eyes or worse,,someone might take advantage of us by asking us a question or begin a conversation that interupts our busy life

and then some will only reply when they have need to judge or be a human spell checker

and spending the entire trip looking at our phones,,pretending its an important conversation,,cause people dont want a strange connection on the transit

and justifying it all cause Darwin said its ok,,and the american dream of fill my yard with wealth is the measure of success
is a false and morbid way to think humanity will grow in a positive manner

in reality seperation just leads to fulfillment of the ego,,and 0 connections of caring or togetherness

this does not mean we are tree huggers to care and love others,,it just means we
are not all dead heads living in a zombie guided shell we call the body

without connections of the emotions,,we are just flesh walking corpses
serving our existance of time, until we rot and return to the beauty of simply nothing but earth

Trance 2014: if people are politically correct and do not look at crime happening because of color or nationality,,any other reason,,it is the start of not being accountable for our seeing actions of none good in life

Trance 2014: Political correctness or political correctitude[1] (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is a term used by some conservatives to describe the attitude or policy of being careful not to offend or upset any group of people in society who are believed to have a disadvantage.

to not post statistics, look the other way because of race or color to crime happening in our policing services or by the government of canada web site by culture or race posting, for the reason not to offend the ones commiting the crimes,,so screaming and riots dont come out

is what im refering too,,looking away does not fix it,,it just gives more power to the forces of control,,,read and get some smarts before judging

and yes i am right on topic and correct,,you just did not see it,,in your haste to judge

Corwin: My goodness... was I being judgmental just now?

My apologies. I was recently attending a Christian Fellowship seminar, and one of the main topics was "How to be more judgmental."... and I'm still probably feeling a little brain-washy at the moment.

Oh hey... while we're being off topic and all.... my hat is pretty cool, don't you think?

Trance 2014: in a nutshell,,separating our self from seeing what is truth around us,,with false belief,,that we are minding our own business

when crime,elder abuse,youth abuse,theft,drug trafficking,bad manners
valdelism,,etc etc

just gives crime free reign and power to the ones who already seek to control

so my point is political correctness has reversed its purpose
not to cause vibrations with under privalaged,,who are now the privalaged
and in control of the streets of violence,,
but if your not in a real big city daily you may not even notice it,,when you grow up and live with the same people all your life
